SPOILERS FOR AUSTRALIAN SURVIVOR: BLOOD VS. WATER

Survivor fans all over the world let out a cheer when finding out that Sandra would do another season. And this time, in the physically demanding and large cast numbers of Australian Survivor. One of Sandra’s primary goals this season was to break her “day 16 curse”. Something that is intent on following her since she won for the second time.

Spoiler alert: It is still following her. Like clockwork, Sandra got the boot once again on day 16. This time, even receiving a vote from her own daughter. Something that’s becoming all-too-common in Blood vs. Water seasons. But this time, Sandra has made a promise regarding her future in Survivor. The question is: Could she be serious?

Sandra ‘Survivor’ No More

Sandra did an interview with 10play, the network that runs Australian Survivor, after her elimination episode went live. In the interview, she talks about a lot of the main points from her run in the season. From competing against her daughter, to how she feels about eventually getting a vote from that daughter, and even why she believes the day 16 curse continues to haunt her.

The main statement she made that has left Survivor fans with mixed feelings is her declaration of retirement.

“But I’ll never do it again! You write this down: I. Am. RETIRED.”

Sandra Diaz-Twine

This isn’t necessarily a shock to long-time Survivor fans. Sandra is currently tied with Boston Rob for most seasons played by any contestant at six each. And she’s approaching her 50s at the moment. The combination of age and skin in the game (Literally, when you consider the physical demand of the show) has had fans theorizing that retirement was coming soon. She can’t play forever, after all. And her recent seasons illustrate that she’s just too high profile to play a good game anymore. She’ll always be Sandra, and she’ll always be the #1 target for that reason.

Still, most can’t help but feel a little sad and nostalgic seeing that Sandra is done with the game. She’s an iconic player, and even when she’s taken out early, she still leaves a large impression on the game. It’s sad to see her go if her statement is true, but it also wouldn’t be the first time a Survivor announced retirement only to take it back later. So Sandra fans can continue to hold out the hope that she’ll change her mind.

Forever And Always The Queen Of Survivor

Regardless of whether or not Sandra ever plays another season, she will always be the first to win twice. No matter how many other castaways, like Tony, reach that level in the future. Sandra Diaz-Twine is the first to ever do it. And she alone held that title for a very long time. Even if she’s taken a number of losses since those fantastic seasons, her legacy as the queen of Survivor is secure. Now and forever.
