‘Sword Art Online’ Season 5: Renewed Or Canceled?
Sword Art Online Season 4 (English Dub Version) recently dropped into the Netflix streaming library and it has left fans wondering whether the series was renewed or canceled for Season 5. More importantly, Netflix subscribers want to know when Sword Art Online Season 5 (English Dub Version) will drop into the streaming library. What is SAO?
Produced by A-1 Pictures, Sword Art Online is the anime adaption of a manga series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. Technically, the series first premiered all the way back in 2012. Season 4 of Sword Art Online, however, has been available to Netflix subscribers for less than a month.
Sword Art Online is an adventure fantasy series with a futuristic storyline that resolves around virtual reality games. During Season 1 of the series, Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki log in to SAW (Sword Art Online) only to realize they are unable to log out of the game.
The creator of the game reveals that he has disabled the ability to log out of the game. He tells players they will need to defeat the game to leave. The creator also reveals that the ability to revive in the game no longer exists. When a player dies in the game, they also die in real life. The creator also explained that any attempts to disconnect the players from the game in the real world would also cause them to die.
Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya, Asuna Yuuki, and their friends proceeded to spend the next two years trapped in the game before Kirito was finally able to set them free by defeating the creator in one final boss battle.
Things take a tragic turn when both Kirito and Asuna die during the final battle. To everyone’s surprise, Kirito wakes up. But, Asuna remains in a coma. He later discovers she’s been trapped in another game by an evil man who desires to become her husband. Thus, Kirito embarks on another journey in a different game to free her from her cage.

Sword Art Online Season 5: Renewed or Canceled?
According to The Cinemaholic, Sword Art Online has not officially been renewed for Season 5 just yet. That being said, Season 4 of the series more or less ended with “to be continued” plastered on the screen. The end of the finale included a black screen with white letters that reassured fans “Kirito would return.” Fans of SAO can only assume this ending wouldn’t have happened if there were no plans to bring the series back for another season.
One of the biggest delays in the development of Season 5 is the lack of material. The series is based of the manga and there isn’t enough source material to move forward with Season 5 just yet. Presently, fans may be looking at waiting another year or two before Sword Art Online Season 5 becomes a reality.
