With only a month remaining until the premiere of Season 42, the Survivor cast list is here. Like Season 41, this is a full cast of newbies ready to make their Survivor debut. Which of them will flop and which will rise above is anybody’s guess. But there are still a lot of interesting takes that can be drawn from what information is given out with the reveal. Plenty of Survivor diehards are already making their winner picks off these introductory interviews and photos alone. So who looks most promising and who looks like an inevitable goat? Let’s find out.
The Cast Of ‘Survivor’ 42
In classic Survivor fashion, the cast is lined with people of all kinds of interesting backgrounds. Amongst these faces are a dietician, a seminary student, and an exotic animal veterinarian. There’s also both a stay-at-home mom and a stay-at-home dad. Jeff Probst has spoken so many times in the past about how he loves players who get up off the couch and do well in the game. So it is no surprise to see multiple off-the-couch players on one season. Casting can only cross their fingers and hope to find another Cirie among these players.
There are also a number of new Canadians joining the Survivor ranks this season. Season 41 is the first season where the show began to allow Canadian contestants. And immediately the first Canadian winner was crowned with Erika. The aforementioned seminary student Maryanne Oketch and the exotic animal vet Omar Zaheer are both from Ontario. There’s also Drea Wheeler, who is originally from Texas but now lives in Quebec.
There are a number of very young contestants coming to this season as well. In Season 41, Xander became one of the youngest finalists in the show’s history. Whether or not Zach Wurtenberger and Lydia Meredith will be able to live up to that is anyone’s guess. But they are definitely both superfans and endlessly optimistic about their chances. JD was also a young superfan who let his eagerness push him into an unnecessary spotlight that curtailed his game. Let’s hope these new young players can strike that balance.
‘Survivor’ Returns
Generally, it seems like Season 42 will be following the format from Season 41. Like in Season 41, this group will be three tribes. Also, apparently the new “beware” 3-tribe idol advantage will be making a return. Let’s hope there are certain alterations that rectify some of the mistakes of 41. Mistakes like the universally-loathed hourglass advantage and the omission of the loved ones reward. However, both seasons were filmed back-to-back, giving production no time to heed fan feedback from Season 41 before filming 42. This means it is very likely that almost every aspect of Season 41 will be returning, the good and the ugly.
Survivor Season 42 officially premieres on March 9th.
