Gil & Kelly Bates Issue Statement

In response to the news, Gil and Kelly Bates have issued a statement. In their statement to Us Weekly, the family said:

“As the next year begins, our family will be experiencing a lot of new changes. One of the biggest changes for us is that the network will be moving toward producing more scripted family shows and will not be renewing a contract to film new Bringing Up Bates episodes. We realize God’s timing is always perfect, and we are looking forward to what the future holds for our own family, as well as the network!”

They continued, “The last ten seasons of filming with Bringing Up Bates have been an amazing journey for our family. We never expected or aspired to be on TV, but we are forever grateful to UP for all of the friendships we have formed as a result. Filming and opening up our home has been both rewarding and challenging, but there are not enough words we could say to show appreciation for the amazing film crew and all of the staff who have invested so much time into making this show possible. They have become family and have impacted us forever. We are also grateful for all of the encouragement we have received over the years from those who have watched the show and have reached out to message us or pray for us.”

    1. I think it’s sad that a network is so afraid to air a wholesome family show, and are willing to be bullied by a group of people who think they have to have it their way. What happened to the day when people were forgiven for making a mistake or for saying something inappropriate. Are we not allowed a second chance anymore. Are we not allowed to try to do better in the future? What are we teaching our children? No wonder children commit suicide. They think they one cares. Shame on us!

  1. I’m very disappointed that UPTV has canceled Bringing up Bates, please reconsider and DON’T cancel the show.

  2. Kelly Jo and Gil gave the response that I expected. I believe that what we saw on tv was who they were. I didn’t expect them to rant and rave and act like idiots. That’s our job as their devoted fans. Not that we are really idiots, but we believe in what they stand for. I was very proud of them. The network is so wrong!
