How Did Netflix Announce Release Date Of ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2?
Bridgerton fans can now officially mark their new 2022 calendar with the much-awaited release date of Season 2. The streamer used an unusual way to make the announcement, letting fans know when the popular series was coming back. Read on to find out more about the announcement, the release date and some new cast members for Season 2.
Netflix announces Bridgerton Season 2 release date
It is one year since Season 1 of Bridgerton was first released by Netflix. The Regency-era show went on to be a serious hit in millions of households. Now, fans are being treated to a big piece of news about Season 2. They will also get to know when the second season will release on the streamer.
Netflix released a short teaser clip to YouTube on December 25 as a special Christmas present for Bridgerton fans. In the clip, viewers can see Bridgerton cast members, old and new, as they reveal the release date of Season 2.
In the clip, Bridgerton stars Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Claudia Jessie, Luke Newton and Charithra Chandran appear. They are standing in an appropriate setting, but without their period costumes, reading a letter from Lady Whistledown.
As told by the cast, the letter began, “Happy anniversary to our buzzy Ton.” The letter tells its “dear readers” that it is customary for a first anniversary to gift paper. The incomparable lady continued, writing that she hopes they find this one informative, closing with the words, “Bridgerton’ returns March 25th.”
Series based on the books of Julia Quinn
Bridgerton is based on the book series of author Julia Quinn and was at one stage Netflix’s most-watched TV series ever. The fame lasted until the iconic South Korean series Squid Game trumped its viewership in October.
Due to its instant popularity, less than a month after the show debuted, creator Chris Van Dusen made an important announcement. In January, he said the series was coming back for a second season. In fact, in April this year, two more seasons were announced for Bridgerton.
Van Dusen added that Season 2 would focus on the story of Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. Season 1 had followed Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family. Its episodes covered her relationship with Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page. One disappointing aspect is that while Page’s character was a fan favorite, he won’t be back in Season 2. However, Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, did say the duke will be “referred to a lot” in the second season.
New cast members for Bridgerton Season 2
While Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning, four new cast members are coming in Season 2. Today reports that these include Simone Ashley, Charithra Chandran, as well as Rupert Young and Calam Lynch. Meanwhile, Ashley, who also starred in the Netflix hit Sex Education, will play the role of Kate Sharma, Lord Anthony’s love interest.
Readers can watch a teaser clip for Season 2 of Bridgerton, released at the TUDUM event.
