After a long year without everyone’s favorite reality competition on the air. ‘Survivor’ is finally back to its regular schedule. Season 41 just aired its finale, at the end of which there was a preview for the 42nd season that will premiere in March of 2022. Season 41 was full of twists, changes, and new additions to the decades-old game. But it was notably the first season since the very beginning of the show to not work with a theme.
Following the first season of the show back in 2000, every season has had a theme. Whether location-based, twist-based, or cast-based. In other words, one season was known as ‘Survivor’: Africa. One season was known as ‘Survivor’: Ghost Island. One was known as ‘Survivor’: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers. Season 41 was just that. Season 41. No particular theme or specialized cast to speak of. Will Season 42 follow in that trend or will the show return to its themed roots? Jeff Probst recently gave more details on what’s coming.
What To Expect In Season 42
“Perhaps the best twist of all is that we shot 41 and 42 back to back, which means this new group of players had not seen ‘Survivor’ 41, so they have no idea what awaits them!” The long-time host and executive producer of the show had to say about the upcoming season.
So Season 42 is expected to be fairly similar to its predecessor season. With the same cast size, days to victory, and scarce resources. The lack of any particular theme will also follow suit. Whether or not the absence of thematic seasons is a trend the production team behind the show plans to continue in the future or not is yet to be confirmed.
The setting will naturally be returning as well since the seasons were filmed back-to-back. This means more of the tropical Fijian setting that has become the home of all recent ‘Survivor’ seasons going back to Season 33. The lack of any locational variety in the show for the last 6 years has been controversial amongst many long-time fans. Fiji is a wonderful setting for the show, but variety is the spice of life at the end of the day. And some of the show’s best seasons have come from difficult terrains pushing the players to their limits. Tocantins, Australia, Guatemala, etc.
The Cast
The cast of ‘Survivor’ 42 has yet to be formally announced by CBS. At the Season 41 finale, there was a small sneak peek that showed off a handful of the players. Expect a full press release with cast photos and bios to hit the internet very soon.
‘Survivor’ Season 42 is set to premiere on March 9th, 2022.
