AMC Orders Anne Rice’s ‘Mayfair Witches’ Series, Follows ‘Interview With The Vampire’
After AMC Networks last year acquired the rights to a number of Anne Rice’s works, the network has now announced the Mayfair Witches series. The series, based on The Lives of the Mayfair Witches book trilogy, is set to launch next year. Meanwhile, this will come after the TV adaptation of Rice’s Interview With the Vampire wraps its own series.
AMC series Mayfair Witches
In 2020, AMC Networks acquired the rights to 18 titles of Anne Rice’s works. Set to air on AMC and AMC+, the titles include the author’s The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series. Meanwhile, Rice herself will serve as executive producer on all projects, along with her son Christopher Rice.
Esta Spalding (Masters of S*x) and Michelle Ashford will act as executive producers and writers for the series, with Spalding also serving as showrunner.
Plot of the new series
The plot of the eight-episode Mayfair Witches series will focus on an intuitive young neurosurgeon. She discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. Meanwhile, as she grapples with her newfound powers, she is forced to contend with a sinister presence. That presence has, in fact, haunted her family for generations.

To get an idea of the scope of Anne Rice’s catalog acquired by AMC last year, this includes Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. It also features The Queen of the Damned, The Tale of the Body Thief and Memnoch the Devil. Further Vampire Chronicles include The Vampire Armand, Pandora and Vittorio the Vampire. As for the character Lestat, other titles include Prince Lestat, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis and Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat.
Meanwhile, the Lives of the Mayfair Witches series features The Witching Hour, Lasher and Taltos. AMC’s acquisition also includes the Vampire Chronicles/Mayfair Witches crossover novels, Merrick, Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle. As Anne Rice fans know well, each book is packed with classic storytelling, ideal for an exciting TV series.
This far in advance, there are no hints as to the cast members for the new series.
More about the Mayfair Witches
TVLine quotes Mayfair Witches executive producers Spalding and Ashford talking about the new AMC series. They said the world of witches has fascinated and terrified for centuries. However, Anne Rice’s particular lens on witches “explores something new altogether.” She depicts them as women who are powerful, and often brutal, and always committed to subverting our current power structures.
“We are so excited to join our partners AMC and Gran Via Productions in making this mysterious and provocative world come to life,” the EPs added.
When can we expect the AMC series to drop?
First next year, AMC will release the much-anticipated TV adaptation of Rice’s Interview With the Vampire. Following this, at some time in 2022, fans will get to see the Mayfair Witches.
