Netflix Original ‘After Life’ Season 3: Trailer, Release Date, What We Know

The Netflix Original comedy series After Life with funnyman Ricky Gervais was renewed for Season 3 a while back. Meanwhile, the season started filming in April 2021 and has since wrapped. The Netflix Original comedy series After Life stars Ricky Gervais along with a number of other familiar faces. Gervais plays the role of Tony, who has suffered a tragic loss with the passing of his wife. Now, he is left alone and is trying to pick up the pieces and carry on with his life.

The series first debuted in March 2019 and Season 2 dropped on Netflix on April 24, 2020. Due to its popularity, After Life went on to be renewed by the streamer for a third season. Netflix announced the good news with a tweet on May 6, 2020, which was quickly followed on Twitter by a message from Ricky Gervais.

In his tweet, Ricky wrote, “Because so many of you watched #AfterLife2 so quickly and made it Number 1 again, the nice people at Netflix have suggested that I get off my fat a**e and do another season.”

What can we expect from Season 3 of After Life?

Just as it seems he is recovering, the end of Season 2 sees Tony (Gervais) suffer a further setback. This comes as his father (David Bradley) passes away from dementia in the nursing home. It is likely that a formal funeral will air at some time in Season 3. Fans will also get to discover how Tony copes with the loss of his father.

The one major plot point for Season 3 will hopefully be the salvation of the local newspaper. Tony promised Sandy in Season 2 that the paper would continue. Meanwhile, it seems he is enjoying having a new purpose in life.

As for why Season 3 is the final season, according to What’s on Netflix, Ricky Gervais has often ended his shows after only two or three seasons. The funnyman recently told the Mirror, “I’ve already made my mind up there won’t be a four.”

Gervais continued, saying, “You do put those things out there to make you remember as it’s tempting. However, he added,  “but… there’s an old saying that ‘to lead the orchestra, you’ve got to turn your back on the audience’.”

So far, no date has been released for the premiere of Season 3 of After Life. However, when Ricky posted the trailer, he titled it, “After Life – Season 3 Coming Soon.” Meanwhile, filming is complete, so the third and final season is likely to drop somewhere between December 2021 and April 2022.
