Netflix Series ‘Shadow And Bone’: When Will Season 2 Start Filming?

The fantasy series Shadow and Bone was officially renewed by Netflix in June 2021 after the successful airing of the first season. However, since then things have been quiet about the popular fantasy series, binged by 55 million households. Season 1 of Shadow and Bone arrived on Netflix in April 2021 after lengthy development. The series is based on the globally bestselling Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo. Moreover, the series was well-received with 50 million households watching within the first four weeks. When it came to renewing the series, this was a no-brainer, due to its popularity.

For those who have yet to watch the series, Shadow and Bone tells the story of a war-torn world. Here, lowly orphan and soldier Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) has unleashed an extraordinary power. In fact, this remarkable power could be the key to setting her country free. She has to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. These soldiers are set to fight the monstrous, looming threat of the Shadow Fold.

As Alina struggles to hone her power, she discovers that allies and enemies can be one and the same. In fact, nothing in this world is quite what it appears to be. She and her fellow soldiers have to fight against dangerous forces, including a bunch of charismatic criminals. The group discovers that surviving will take more than magic.

What is happening with Season 2?

The only fact we really know is that Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will be based on the second book in the Grishaverse series, Siege and Storm. Like the first season, Season 2 will run over eight episodes. Also, Eric Heisserer is set to return as the showrunner and writer of the series.

Reportedly, the production team has been working over the summer with the goal to start filming in January 2022. Filming of the series will once again take place in Budapest and will be carried out between January and July 2022.

Now we can report that the team behind Shadow and Bone has been working away over the summer with the view to begin filming season 2 in January 2022.

When can we expect Season 2 of Shadow and Bone on Netflix?

So far, it is difficult to say when Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will premiere on Netflix. However, looking back at Season 1, filming was carried out from October 2019 through February 2020. Admittedly, there were additional shoots carried out in June 2020, but the season finally dropped on Netflix in April 2021.

What’s on Netflix theorizes the second season won’t arrive in 2022, but rather in 2023. Whether this is a fact is unknown, but fans should bear in mind that it will be a long wait.
