Netflix Adapts Dark Horse Comic ‘Grendel’: What We Know
For those who love adaptations of the Dark Horse comics, Netflix is adapting Grendel, the story of a much-loved villain and alter-ego Hunter Rose. Netflix adapts Dark Horse comic Grendel
Grendel is based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name by author Matt Wagner. The title is set to be a Netflix Original super-hero, crime-action series, created by Andrew Dabb. Meanwhile, Dark Horse Entertainment will handle the production of the series. The executive producers will be Andrew Dabb, Keith Goldberg, Matt Wagner, Chris Tongue and Mike Richardson.
First published in 1982, Grendel is a long-running comic book series, created by American author Matt Wagner. The title character is the masked identity and alter-ego of Hunter Rose, a writer and assassin who eventually takes over New York City’s organized crime ring. In fact, Grendel has been ranked as the IGN 88th-greatest villain of all time. This is no mean feat when compared against the Marvel and DC comics competition.
What is the plot of the Netflix Original series?
Grendel features the much-loved villain, Hunter Rose, a writer, assassin and gifted fencer. Hunter seeks to avenge the death of his lost love. However, instead of taking down the criminal underworld, Rose decides to join them instead.
Cast of Grendel
Actor Abubakr Ali has been cast in the lead role of Hunter Rose. Ali will no doubt be recognized by fans of The CW series Katy Keene, where he played the character of Raj Patel. He has also starred in The Walking Dead: World Beyond as Dev, and as Sebastian ‘Bash’ Kamal-Stern in Power Book 2.
Meanwhile, other cast members of the Netflix Original series Grendel include Brittany Allen, who plays Annabelle Wright. Other cast includes Julian Black Antelope as Argent, Kevin Corrigan as Barry Palumbo and Andy Mientus in an unnamed role. Emma Ho plays Stacy Palumbo, while Jaime Ray Newman, Erik Palladino and Madeline Zima are also in unnamed roles.
What is the latest status of the Netflix Original series?
As of October 12, 2021, Grendel is filming. Reportedly, principal photography started on September 8, 2021 and will take at least three months. Currently, it is scheduled to end on December 17, 2021. What’s On Netflix advises that the only known filming location so far is Vancouver, Canada.
Fans shouldn’t expect the Netflix Original series Grendel to drop in the near future. It is likely to premiere on Netflix in late 2022, or even early 2023.
