‘Maya And The Three’ Netflix Animated Miniseries: Trailer, What We Know So Far
This coming fall, Netflix will be releasing a beautiful, new animated miniseries, Maya and the Three. The miniseries features a lineup of Latin-American voice actors, as well as some of the best animation. On top of this, the Netflix Original blends Aztec, Inca and Maya mythology. It also includes a touch of modern-day Caribbean culture in a colorful and fun way.
Maya and the Three animated Netflix Original miniseries
Jorge R Gutierrez directed and created Maya and the Three, while the production is by Tangent Animation and Mexoplis. The Netflix Original miniseries brings together a fascinating blend of Aztec, Inca and Maya mythology for a unique and colorful adventure.
According to the Netflix synopsis, Maya and the Three takes place in a fantastical world. Here, the world is turned by magic and the lands are ruled by the four kingdoms. Meanwhile, the animated miniseries tells the story of a brave and rebellious Mesoamerican-inspired warrior princess named Maya. She is about to celebrate her fifteenth birthday and her coronation.
However, everything changes when the gods of the underworld arrive. The gods announce that Maya’s life is forfeit to the God of War. This is apparently the price she must pay for her family’s secret past. Moreover, if she refuses, the whole world will suffer from the gods’ vengeance. Maya then embarks on a thrilling quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy and save her beloved family, her friends and her own life. Meanwhile, the ancient prophecy foretells the coming of three great warriors, who will help Maya defeat the gods and save humankind.
Cast of the animated miniseries
Among the cast of Maya and the Three, Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy) voices Maya. The Widow Queen is voiced by Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight, Instant Family, Dora and the Lost City of Gold). Stephanie Beatriz is the voice of Chimi, known for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Short Term 12 and The LEGO Movie 2.
Danny Trejo (Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn, Machete Kills) plays the voice of The God of Earthquakes. Gael Garcia Bernal plays the Jaguar Triplets (Mozart in the Jungle, Y Tu Mamá También, The Motorcycles Diaries). The voice of Lord Mictlan is performed by Alfred Molina of Spider-Man 2, Frida and Boogie Nights fame. On top of this, there is a lineup of other stars.
When does Maya and the Three premiere on Netflix?
While the streaming channel has announced that the animated miniseries will arrive this fall, it has yet to announce the actual release date. However, Netflix has confirmed that there will be a total of nine episodes. The streaming channel has not confirmed runtimes, but they are likely to each run between 23 and 30 minutes each.
