Nicole Kidman In ‘Nine Perfect Strangers:’ Release Date, What To Expect
Anyone who enjoyed the work of Nicole Kidman in Big Little Lies and The Undoing is about to get a treat. She was amazing in both exciting and suspenseful TV dramas. Now, she is appearing in a third exciting limited drama series on Hulu, Nine Perfect Strangers. Here’s what we know about the new series, including a trailer and a release date.
Nicole Kidman and Nine Perfect Strangers
The Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers is based on a 2018 novel of the same name by Big Little Lies author, Liane Moriarty. It tells the story of nine stressed city dwellers, as they try to transform their lives for the better. To do so, they spend a 10-day retreat at a boutique health and wellness resort, run by Nicole Kidman’s character, Masha Dmitrichenko.
Viewing the trailer, it can be seen this isn’t about meditating, massage and music therapy. Kidman’s character has different methods of transforming her clients, including digging, and lying in, their own graves.
Like Big Little Lies and The Undoing, Nine Perfect Strangers has a stellar cast. Besides Kidman in the lead, we get to see Melissa McCarthy as Frances Welty and Luke Evans as Lars Lee. Melvin Gregg plays Ben Chandler, Samara Weaving plays Jessica Chandler and Michael Shannon is Napoleon Marconi. Meanwhile, Asher Keddie plays Heather Marconi and Grace Van Patten is Zoe Marconi. Manny Jacinto is in the role of Yao, while Tiffany Boone plays Delilah and Regina Hall plays Carmel Schneider. Last, but not least, Bobby Cannavale plays Tony Hogburn.
The limited series is set for release on Hulu on Wednesday, August 18, so there is not long to wait.
Nicole Kidman on filming the Hulu series
When promoting the upcoming Hulu series, Nicole Kidman, 54, spoke about what it was like filming the show in Australia during a pandemic. It turns out filming was performed under new and stringent COVID-19 safety protocols.
Besides playing the lead, Kidman was also a producer on the series. She told the Sydney Morning Herald that there was an “enormous amount of stress” being responsible for people’s safety and health. She said they took that really seriously. There was mask-wearing and testing all the way. If someone had a sore throat, and even if the test was negative, they rescheduled or shut down filming. Nicole said they couldn’t put anyone at risk. However, they did get through filming without one case, which she said was “extraordinary.”
Kidman did admit that if she and the other producers knew beforehand of the stress they would face filming the series, it probably wouldn’t have happened. Kidman said she doesn’t think they realized what they were taking on. If they had known how high the risk was in terms of the whole thing being shut down and destroyed, she doesn’t think the financers would have taken the risk. She added, “We kind of played Russian roulette in that way.”
