The Mandalorian star Ming-Na Wen praises Mark Hamill

Unlike many of us, Ming-Na Wen had a huge year in 2020. First, she starred in the final season of Agents of SHIELD. She also made a cameo appearance in Mulan, before returning as Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian.

Wen’s Star Wars experience is only just beginning, as she will also star in The Book of Boba Fett, alongside Temuera Morrison. On top of this, she will voice the character of Fennec on the animated series, The Bad Batch.

It turns out the actress is a lifelong Star Wars fan. This meant it was natural for her to geek out on Twitter over getting to work with Mark Hamill. She calls the experience of working with him on his cameo as the highlight of her career. Meanwhile, Hamill also had the best response to her message.

Wen tweeted, writing, “You (& Luke) have been immensely inspirational & impactful to my childhood & as an adult. To have shared a scene with you in @themandalorian is truly one of the biggest highlights, not just in my career, but in my life. Thank you.”  The Mandalorian star wrote.

Mark Hamill returns the compliment

As noted by The Independent, Hamill was quick to respond, using the hashtag #YoureNotSoBadYourself. He tweeted, “So this happened & I’m literally speechless.” He went on to write that the pleasure was all his. He said he has no words for fans’ reactions to Luke’s return, adding it is something he will cherish forever.

Wen wrote that she had reached “nerd nirvana” by working with Hamill on The Mandalorian. She said this was much than the time Steven Tyler spilled red wine on her arm at a party and wiped it off with cocktail napkins.

Speaking with StarWars.com recently, Wen had joked, “Do you know how long I’ve had to keep silent about Fennec coming back?”  This was apparently the first time she had been able to talk about her role. Wen also mentioned her voice role in The Bad Batch. She said, yes, it is a younger Fennec, voiced by her. Wen said she was “thrilled and beyond happy” that they wanted to create more of a backstory for her character.

Mark Hamill’s cameo in The Mandalorian

Speaking of Hamill’s epic cameo in The Mandalorian, he was credited for the role, as it was his face and his voice. However, actor Max Lloyd-Jones stood in as “Double for Jedi,” playing the role on set. Lloyd-Jones was given Hamill’s younger face and voice through movie technical magic.

Last week, when the epic episode aired, Hamill teased on social media, writing, “Seen anything good on TV lately?”

The Star Wars actor also wrote about keeping the iconic cameo in The Mandalorian a secret for a year. He said it was “nothing less than a miracle” that no leaks were released. Mark Hamill called it a “real triumph for spoiler-haters everywhere.”

Star Wars fans can look forward to The Book of Boba Fett in December 2021. Meanwhile, the next season of The Mandalorian is coming in 2022.
