Netflix: ‘Black Mirror’ Creator Working On Mockumentary About 2020
Charlie Brooker is best known for the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror. That show covers current tech topics in a brilliant and dystopian way. Brooker is now busy penning a mockumentary about 2020 for the popular streaming channel. As everyone knows, 2020 has been trying, to say the least. With Charlie’s imagination, this mockumentary can only be a hit.
Black Mirror creator works on 2020 mockumentary
Netflix picked up the dystopian anthology Black Mirror in 2015. Moreover, previous seasons have since been added to their catalog. New seasons have drawn critical acclaim, especially after Season 5 hit Netflix in 2019 with three more episodes.
However, Brooker exited Netflix in 2020, so Black Mirror Season 6 is unlikely to feature on the streaming channel. The scriptwriter himself has questioned whether the public is ready for a show similar to Black Mirror to return in 2020. Let’s face it, the show covers everyday aspects like technology to terrifying effect. There are already too many conspiracy theories about the coronavirus epidemic.
However, the production company that holds the rights to Black Mirror is open to continuing the relationship with Netflix. At this time, it is unclear what will happen with that show. However, this doesn’t mean Brooker isn’t ready to cook up another scary satire of the modern era.

Mockumentary about 2020 for Netflix
As noted by Deadline, Brooker is busy penning a mockumentary about 2020 for Netflix. Hugh Grant recently revealed his involvement with that show, saying he will play a historian with an “atrocious” wig. This sounds perfect for Grant, especially after his recent role with Nicole Kidman in the terrifying HBO Max thriller The Undoing.
It seems Brooker will be leaning towards a documentary-style film, possibly with Grant’s character as a talking head style narrator. While few other details are currently available, it isn’t hard to imagine what the writer will cover in this new dystopia feature.

2020 has been a year of insanity, both with the COVID-19 pandemic and politics in the lead-up to the US presidential election. Black Mirror has already covered pandemics and politics in its episodes, so the mockumentary will likely follow those trends.
Of course, 2020 has been a whole load of crazy in so many other aspects, this is likely perfect for Brooker’s screenplay. He is sure to cover 2020 with a scary and comedic effect in the true Black Mirror tradition. One of the main reasons the Netflix show is so popular is that it so rightly predicts new trends in technology. Black Mirror then takes those new trends to their logical extremes.
However, with the public at large still smarting from this terrible year, it is hoped that it will also include some positivity. Maybe show there is a little light at the end of this trying tunnel. Whatever he writes, the new 2020 mockumentary is sure to go down well with Black Mirror fans.
