Prerecorded shows to come

Prior to his passing on November 8, Trebek prerecorded various shows that were set to air throughout the holiday season. However, Jeopardy! announced earlier this week that his final episodes will air during the week of January 4, 2021. As noted by CBS News, they explained that this is due to “anticipated preemptions around Christmas and New Year’s.”

The show also announced this week that production will resume on new episodes on November 30. These will be filmed with a series of interim hosts, the first of which will be Ken Jennings. Ken is a former contestant on the show, widely regarded as the best Jeopardy! player of all time.

About Jeopardy!

For those who haven’t seen Jeopardy, it is a classic game show, with a twist. The contestants are given the answers first and then have to supply the questions. Three contestants, including the previous show’s champion, compete in six categories and in three rounds.

In the third round, the contestants can name their own jackpot. This is as long as the figure is within the amount of money they have already won. If a contestant finishes the second round with zero dollars, they are eliminated from Final Jeopardy.

So far, no new information has been provided by Jeopardy! about who will permanently replace Alex Trebek. The late host appeared on more than 8,000 episodes over a period of more than 35 years. In the process, Trebek won six Daytime Emmys. As for some popular picks by fans for his replacement, these include Jennings. Other picks are Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton and ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos.
