‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Showrunner Reveals Season 5 Would Have Featured ‘Riverdale’ Crossover
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina showrunner recently revealed what was in store for Season 5 if the show hadn’t been canceled. In early July, it was revealed that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is approaching its fourth and final season. Now, showrunner Roberto Aguirre Sacasa drops another surprise bomb on fans. For some, the second surprise is just as devastating as the first.
Apparently, Sabrina and Greendale were headed for a monster “Witch War.” Plus, there was a crossover with sister series, Riverdale.
Greendale Witches Headed for Riverdale?
As the fourth and final chapter of Sabrina looms close by – fans are mourning the loss of the popular Netflix series. While the show is popular, Netflix is no longer funding it. But, the show has a significant fan base. This is unfortunately very typical of the streaming giant, especially when it comes to its original programming.
Earlier this week, Sacasa shared some details. Because of the recent cancellation, they are tossing huge plans for Sabrina’s 5th chapter. According to him, the fifth season was slated to include a massive crossover plot with popular CW series, Riverdale. A tweet from Sacasa on July 9, contains a comic style illustration. And, that illustration includes characters from both series. Also, he shares the caption, ‘The Riverdale Witches are Coming…”
Sacasa thanks fans and supporters for an awesome run on the show. The cast and crew mirror his sentiment and feel that no one will be upset with the ending.

ScreenRant reports that despite airing on separate networks and platforms that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale actually exist in the same “universe.” The two supernatural dramas are to be “sister series.” Storylines reveal their towns are not far from each other. This proximity allows for plausible character interactions.
Sabrina Writers Leave a Trail for Viewers to Follow

One of the later Chilling Adventures of Sabrina episodes from season three, “Chapter Twenty-Three: Heavy is the Crown,” followed CAOS characters, Ambrose and Sabrina, on a search. This search leads them directly into Riverdale in search of a long-lost powerful crown. This particular moment was a huge trigger clue for most fans that a connection existed. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will see those situations play out on screen.
What Happens Now?
Actors, writers, and even Sacasa have said that despite their sadness, Season 4 will be the best yet. So, while fans would love to see the story continue, Sabrina likely can’t change networks. Netflix contracts are reportedly very strict and likely limit the show’s ability to continue elsewhere. Its also possible the crossover may be salvageable by bringing CAOS characters over to the Riverdale cast temporarily. This would give show writers a chance to give fans the exciting cross-over plot they will miss out on.
