‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Actor Patrick Dempsey Uses Iconic Line To Encourage Fans To Wear A Mask
During the COVID-19 pandemic, people are supposed to wear a mask, to protect themselves and others. Regrettably, not everyone is complying. Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy has found the perfect way to promote the use of a mask.
Patrick Dempsey of Grey’s Anatomy promotes wearing a mask
To encourage fans to wear a mask during the COVID-19 pandemic, Patrick Dempsey posted on Instagram on Monday. He used one of his most iconic lines from Grey’s Anatomy to do so. Dempsey, 54, posted a close-up selfie wearing a black and white mask with the caption, “It’s a Beautiful Day to Save Lives.” The star who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd aptly added the hashtags, #WearAMask, #COVID19 and #YourActionsSaveLives.

Dr. Derek Shepherd often uses this phrase on Grey’s Anatomy before performing surgery. What better way is there to promote the safe use of masks during the pandemic?
As noted by People, prior to his Instagram post and on Saturday, the Grey’s Anatomy star shared a Politico video of Dr. Anthony Fauci. In the footage, Dr. Fauci speaks of the importance of everyone doing their best to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
On the Instagram post, Dempsey wrote, urging fans to “Please, please listen to what he is saying.” He asks fans to take a few minutes to watch the video and really pay attention. Patrick urges that “we can make this go away!” He reminds us that we are all in this together. He closes by saying “We can do this people, but we have to be mindful and support each other. Wear a mask please.”

The importance of wearing a mask against COVID-19
The Grey’s Anatomy stars encouraging Instagram post comes at a time when a number of states across the US experienced a surge in positive cases. This includes California, where on Monday the Los Angeles Department of Public Health has ordered all beaches in L.A. County to close.
This beach closure comes at a time when everyone is preparing for the upcoming holiday weekend. The hope is that this will dissuade large crowds from gathering on the beaches for the 4th of July. The county has also banned firework displays.
Grey’s Anatomy stars promote social distancing
While this will obviously be disappointing for all, Patrick and his Grey’s Anatomy co-star, Eric Dane prove there is still fun to be had. In April, Eric posted an epic Twitter selfie of them both. Patrick’s “McDreamy” posted with Dane’s “McSteamy” to show how social distancing works.

In the post, Eric, 47, writes, “Blurry pic of how to hang out 6 feet apart.” The image is blurry indeed, but clear enough to show both actors smiling while posing on a hillside.
Fans were sad when Eric left Grey’s Anatomy in 2012, after starring in a six-season run. Meanwhile, Patrick, who was one of the founding cast members on the show, left in 2015.
Readers, please take note of Dempsey’s and Dane’s messages. Employ social distancing wherever possible and please, wear a mask to protect yourself and others. While this may seem to spoil the upcoming 4th of July holiday, you can still have fun, but safely!
