Colorado Burglar Caught On Camera By News Crew On Live TV
In a strange turn of events, a burglar in Colorado is in custody following news crews reporting on said burglaries. The news crews were reporting on the alleged crimes when this happened. So, how did this situation play out, and what else do we know about it so far?
A Colorado Man Is Now In Custody Following Burglaries
Based on the latest news making the rounds, a man accused of multiple burglaries in Colorado is in custody. However, more than anything else, it’s how he was caught that is drawing a lot of attention. It turns out, according to PEOPLE, on Friday, September 26, several news outlets in Colorado were covering an individual “suspected of committing multiple trespasses and burglaries in neighborhoods along CO Hwy 103 in Idaho Springs.”
While reporting on this, news crews spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description. The suspect has been identified as Richard Applequist, and he “walked directly by news cameras” before going through a parking lot. Following this incident, news crews swiftly called 911.

Suspect Was Quickly Located
In a press release following the incident of the suspected burglar being caught on camera by news crews, a statement said, “Deputies and Idaho Springs Police quickly responded to the area and were able to locate and arrest Applequist.”
There has also been video footage released of the suspect roaming around in tactical gear and carrying a gun. This is certainly a situation that could have been much worse, and one that could have gone on a lot longer if news crew cameras had not been on the scene to report on these burglaries.
What also makes this situation unique is, while it’s common for news crews to report on the news and other happenings, the fact that cameras caught the suspect in question is something remarkable in and of itself, as well as quite rare in terms of being at the right place at the right time.

News Anchor Who Spotted Suspect Speaks Out
It’s quite the stroke of luck that news crews were able to catch the suspect on camera as he walked through a parking lot. One of those news crew members recently spoke out following this lucky break.
Justin Adams, who spotted Applequist, said of the incident, “After the 6:55 hit, [photographer] El Dee was kind of pointing out, there’s somebody who looks exactly like I was saying. I was kind of more in a sense of disbelief that wait a minute, this is the guy who I’m literally just talking about and described on live TV. He’s right now crossing the street, so I said, ‘Hey, put your camera on him.’ ”
Adams continued, adding, “We don’t know what it’s going to be, but if nothing else, we make sure that we have that footage, and it turned out that was the individual as well.”
