Would the pop music world exist the way it does today if it weren’t for Madonna? The influence of Madonna is undeniable. She’s considered an icon and a legend. Even though her music came out in the 80s, people still bump her songs to this day. Many music lovers would argue that Madonna‘s music is timeless. It’ll be beloved for many years to come. Katy Perry is a legendary pop singer in her own right, but she also has an endless amount of respect for Madonna. Here’s what she’s had to say about the “Material Girl” singer.

Proof That Katy Perry Adores Madonna

Madonna thoroughly inspires Katy, and she’s been a great source of inspo for a while. According to That Grape Juice, Katy gushed over the “Vogue” songstress saying, “Madonna was really nice to me. She actually shouted out my song [in the noughties] and that was really the beginning of my career. That’s what started to break me.” Katy went on to say:

”She’s the greatest. She paved the way. Every person, when you talk about me reaching out to younger artists, every female still needs to continue to say ‘thank you’ to her cause she is breaking down barriers. I’m 40, I still get to do music because of Madonna.”

Katy officially turns 40 on October 25, 2024. From her perspective, Madonna has definitely made it easier for the female pop stars to continue performing regardless of how old they get. There might be younger pop stars on the rise at the moment, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still room for older legends to continue working their magic.

Some of the Gen-Z-aged pop stars who are making waves right now include Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Addison Rae. It’s possible that if Madonna wasn’t around proving that it’s perfectly fine for older female pop stars to stay in the game, people like Katy would have already chosen to retire. Katy’s actually quite far from retirement, and she recently just dropped a new album called 143.

Will Katy Perry Keep Releasing New Music?

Her Teenage Dream album was arguably her best since it included songs like “Last Friday Night,” “Firework,” and “California Gurls.” So far, it doesn’t look like 143 is faring as well as Katy’s earlier musical releases, but based on what she just said about Madonna, Katy won’t throw in the towel just yet. The first single from 143 is “Women’s World. It’s meant to be a feminist anthem that encourages women to feel beautiful and powerful.

The message Katy is trying to convey is one that should resonate well with her fans in theory, but even if this album doesn’t yield the results she’s hoping for, there’s a chance she’ll continue releasing more music down the line.
