Shemar Moore Gives First Look At New ‘S.W.A.T’ Season 8 Team
Popular cop drama S.W.A.T. returns to CBS this fall. Star Shemar Moore shared a first look at the new squad. Stay on this page to find out when Season 8 will premiere and see the new team.
Is Season 8 S.W.A.T.’s Last?
CBS keeps trying to cancel S.W.A.T. but fans of the show refuse to let it die. The show has already faced cancellation twice but survived each time. Star Shemar Moore led the battle cry after it was abruptly canceled in 2023 after six seasons on the air. The network reversed its decision and renewed it for one final season.
But fans once again rallied and CBS decided to bring the show back for Season 8, which will premiere this fall. Is Season 8 the last? The show hasn’t been canceled for a third time, but it hasn’t been renewed either. The fate of the show will likely be determined in 2025 when the network plans the 2025-26 fall TV schedule.
However, S.W.A.T. has always dominated its time slot, so there is definitely hope it will return for Season 9.
Who Isn’t Returning
When the show was renewed for Season 7, the writers thought it would be the last season. They did what they could to wrap up the various storylines and that meant writing off several characters.
Fan-favorite Jim Street (Alex Russell) was transferred to the Long Beach S.W.A.T. team. Meanwhile, Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson) was forced to retire after getting shot in the shoulder.
It was announced ahead of Season 8 that actress Rochelle Aytes, who plays the wife of Shemar Moore’s Hondo, is no longer a series regular, though she will hopefully still make a few appearances.
