Law and Order has always based stories based on true-crime tales. However, all the shows take real crimes and criminals and place them in mostly fictional stories. This means they are based on the crimes and criminals, but not in the way a docuseries is. With a new show, that all changes.

Here is what Law and Order is doing now in the realm of true crime.

Law And Order Bringing True-Crime Series

Law and Order has been around for over two decades, with the original series, SVU, and Criminal Intent, among others. Many of the shows are based on true crime stories, but now the franchise is actually moving into the true crime genre.

Dick Wolf Entertainment started up a new Law and Order show in the form of a true crime podcast. NBC announced that Law & Order: Criminal Justice System will contain 10 episodes in its first season.  It also has a host that has a lot of experience in both the courtroom and the world of podcasting.

Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi, a former Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office prosecutor, hosts the new podcast series. Nicolazzi also co-hosts the true-crime podcast Anatomy of Murder and True Conviction TV series. She says she became a prosecutor because she wanted to contribute to society.

“I love the challenge of putting the pieces together of a puzzle — having to then pack that all up, and explain it to a group of 12 citizens that come from all different walks of life because the challenge is to make sure they agree,” she said about that job.

Now, she is putting together stories for people who listen to podcasts.

What Is Law And Order Podcast About?

The Law and Order podcast’s first season will examine the fall of the Mafia in New York City in 1979. The first three episodes are already available to listen to. The first of these talks is about the assassination of Carmine Galante. The second focuses on the execution of three Bonanno captains. The third details a secret recording that shook up the organized crime syndicate.
