‘WCTH’ Mamie Laverock Takes First Steps Since Terrible Fall
In some great news, When Calls the Heart star Mamie Laverock just took her first steps since her accident a few months back. Laverock was taken to a hospital in May for a medical emergency. Something happened while being transported up a flight of stairs. Sadly, she fell five stories from a balcony.
This moment was the first time she had stood and walked since that tragic accident.
Mamie Laverock Recovering From Terrible Accident
Mamie Laverock was rushed to the hospital in May after she suffered a “medical emergency.” Due to medical confidentiality, there is still no word on what the initial emergency was. However, while at the hospital, she fell five stories from a balcony walkway. She then sustained “life-threatening injuries.”
The hospital, citing medical confidentiality again, has not revealed what happened. There is no word on who is to blame for her falling from that height. However, her parents have said they have a “negligence-type case” against St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. After this, her family set up a GoFundMe account for Mamie and raised the money they hoped for before shutting it down a few weeks ago.
Since that time, Mamie’s mother released a sweet video that showed Mamie sitting up and hugging her, which was a big move for the When Calls the Heart actress. Yet, an even bigger moment was caught on video this week. Mamie Laverock got up and walked for the first time since the horrendous fall.
Mamie Laverock Takes First Steps Since Accident
On Mamie Laverock’s Facebook page, she posted a video of her getting up to try to walk for the first time since her accident. This was posted on August 2, and based on the caption, it was likely posted by her mother. “Thank you surgeon’s, thank you prayers, thank you Lord. Mamie has just taken her first steps,” it read. Mamie was sitting on the bed with both legs in air casts, surrounded by her family and two medical staff workers. One of the medical staff told her they were there to help her. Mamie said she didn’t know if she could do it, so she held onto the wheeled walker.
She then lifted herself to her feed while holding the walker, and the medical personnel were there to support her. When she was up, people started cheering, and Mamie jokingly said, “to standing.” The actress then said that it felt really “weird.”
She said that she was feeling “wobbly,” and when the medical workers asked if she could separate her feet, she joked that the air casts felt like “ski boots” and were really hard, but then she did it. She was then asked to put all her weight on the right and only a little on the left.
Someone said that Mamie’s dad was watching via FaceTime. “Hi dad … look I’m standing with the walker. All by myself,” Mamie said. After this, she took a few steps and got more cheers from the people in the room.
