Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023. The Friends star struggled with addiction for most of his life, and his death was ultimately ruled a “ketamine death.” However, law enforcement officials are working on identifying a “list” of suspects involved in Perry’s demise. Several of the names listed are fellow celebrities. Here is what has been revealed so far.

Death Investigation Has Hollywood ‘On Edge’

In Matthew Perry’s 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the actor talked about his experience with ketamine. Doctors use the drug to help with depression and ease pain. Perry wrote, “Ketamine felt like a giant exhale,” like “being hit in the head with a giant happy shovel.” That said, he pointed out, “The hangover was rough and outweighed the shovel. Ketamine was not for me.”

Despite acknowledging that ketamine wasn’t for him, Perry continued to use it with his doctor’s supervision. Unfortunately, he began to abuse the drug privately, which led to his death.

The Friends star‘s last doctor-supervised ketamine treatment was a week and a half before he was discovered in the hot tub of his home in Los Angeles. Ketamine doesn’t stay in your system that long. Typically, it’s no longer detectable after several hours. So, the ketamine found in Matthew Perry’s system was not from his infusion therapy.

Since that fact was uncovered, authorities have been on a manhunt to find out where the drugs that ended Perry’s life came from. A source told In Touch that law enforcement now has a “list of suspects. It’s got a lot of people in Hollywood on edge.”

They continued, Matthew Perry “knew who to call when he needed a fix, that much is obvious.” There are a number of charges that may come up as a result of the investigation. Authorities are looking at drug dealers, drug swappers, and even doctors.

Individuals Linked To Death Of Matthew Perry Could Face 20 Years In Prison

It is possible that individuals may face charges of drug distribution resulting in death or great bodily injury. That’s a charge that carries a minimum 20-year sentence in prison. Manslaughter charges are another possibility, which requires a minimum 5-year sentence.

“It’s likely they’ll find more people linked to this swapping of drugs by tracking cell phone conversations, text messages, emails, internet use, and physical location,” the source revealed.

Last month, it was reported that Brooke Mueller, Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, was being looked at in the investigation. Her laptop and iPhone were seized from her room at a sober living residence in L.A. She allegedly met Matthew Perry during one of his rehab stints. Like Perry, Mueller has struggled on and off with her sobriety for years. She was brought in for questioning and was reportedly cooperative with law enforcement.

Another celebrity who has yet to be identified has also been brought up during the investigation. A second source said that this person and Perry were “walking pharmacies,” despite both claiming to be sober. There is evidence that Matthew Perry and the second celeb being investigated met up at a doctor’s office who is known to prescribe ketamine.

In the end, whether or not anyone will face charges for Perry’s death will come down to the person’s intent. Former CIA and FBI special agent Tracy Walder explained that they’ll have to determine if the person knew “procuring this [drug for Matthew that] it would kill him?”

No matter what happens in the investigation, Matthew Perry’s friends and family remain shaken by his death. His stepfather, Dateline‘s Keith Morrison, said, “It doesn’t go away yet. It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time.”

His Friends costars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston have also been brought to tears thinking about the late actor in recent interviews. “They’re still so shaken up by his loss,” a source shared. “They wanted to believe Matthew had his life back under control, but he didn’t, and it was much worse than they could have imagined.”
