Alan Cumming Signs New Deal, Is He Leaving ‘The Traitors’?
The Traitors became an instant hit thanks to the reality TV celebrities participating in the show. However, there was also a surprise sensation coming from the series. While he was already a beloved movie star for many people, Alan Cumming became an even bigger talent thanks to the new reality competition series.
Now, Cumming has a new deal, and some fans are worried he might be leaving The Traitors. Here is what Cumming just signed on for and what it means for his future.
Alan Cummings Signs New Deal With NBCUniversal
Alan Cumming has become one of the hottest names in entertainment thanks to his role hosting The Traitors. Alan signed a first-look producing deal with NBCUniversal, including scripted and unscripted content. It also spans NBCU’s entire portfolio of brands (via Deadline).
This is huge. NBCUniversal owns Bravo, E! TV, NBC, Oxygen, Peacock, SyFy, USA Network, and more. This means that Cumming could appear on any number of networks in a variety of roles and appearances. This is also good news for The Traitors, which airs on Peacock.
NBCUniversal not only signed Cumming to a new deal but also renewed The Traitors for a third season. The series was the number one unscripted series across all US streaming platforms when Season 2 premiered. That was all it took to get the series renewed.
The Traitors is a murder mystery competition where any of the players could be the killer, and everyone has to use deceit and treachery to remain in the house long enough to unmask the killer or outlast everyone else before revealing they are the killer.
Cirie Fields (Survivor, Big Brother) won as a Traitor in the first season. In the second season, Chris “CT” Tamburello (The Challenge, The Real World) and Trishelle Cannatella (The Challenge, The Real World) survived to the end as the winners as Faithfuls.
What Is Next For Alan Cumming?
Alan Cumming might be bringing his talent to more reality TV shows, but he has a lot more to offer than that. While he has been fantastic on The Traitors, he has a successful acting career behind him as well.
The Scottish actor has won a BAFTA, Emmy, two Tonys, and an Olivier Award over his career. On top of his Broadway success, he had several critically acclaimed movie and TV roles before the world took notice when he starred as Boris Ivanovich Grishenko in the James Bond movie GoldenEye.
He has since appeared in critically acclaimed movies like Eyes Wide Shut and Nicholas Nickleby and big-budget blockbusters like X2: X-Men United. Cumming could do almost anything, and the new deal guarantees it will be on an NBCUniversal property.
