General Hospital Steve Burton Nearly Walked Off Show

Steve Burton has been a staple on General Hospital since the nineties. Despite a few breaks, fans have come to know him as Jason Morgan. Sadly, in 2021, he was let go from the hit soap opera for not complying with the network’s vaccine mandate. His character was killed off in a tunnel collapse but, as soap fans know, no one is ever really dead. During the 60th anniversary special for GH, it was revealed that Steve would be reprising his role. This was suspected when he exited Days of Our Lives as fans really wanted to see him back in Port Charles.

It turned out that Jason was given an in-depth backstory as to where he had been for two years, something that was not initially going to happen. However, since the show had new head writers, they chose to give Jason a more interesting story. As it turned out, he had been working for Jagger Cates against his will and to protect those closest to him. Yet, he had only been back a handful of weeks before he was ready to get up and leave. According to Soap Hub, it was during his arraignment episode when he got a letter from his mother, Monica Quartermaine.

It was the March 27th episode of General Hospital and Steve Burton opened up about it on his Daily Drama podcast. He co-hosts it with his co-star and good friend, Bradford Anderson who plays Spinelli. In any case, the letter from Monica read:  “Jason, I believe in you.” That caused Jason to break down but it also made Steve overly emotional. “I was so emotional, I couldn’t even get it out. I was literally going to walk off the set.”

Choosing To Stay

Despite wanting to leave, Steve Burton the actor knew that leaving would ruin the performance.  He shared: “Next take, it’s not going to be the same.” Fortunately, fans are so grateful to have Steve back in the role of Jason and he is playing it impeccably well. As for what is to come, that is a mystery but thankfully, he stayed in the moment and gave an amazing performance.

  1. I have been a fan for as long as he was on General hospital. I am delighted he is back on and hope Steve Burton will remain on GH at any cost.

  2. I hate the story of impacting Sonny’s meds. Thus us the second time thus story line has been used. it is wrong especially if the show wants to offer education and information to people who struggle with Bi Polar disease. I lost a brother to suicide as a result of medication imbalance. lousy story line!!!!

  3. I don’t like Steve Burton for not helping his GH “family” by getting vaccinated. His “love” is selfish, IMHO. Then he brought his personal life out in the open by exposing his now ex, over something so personal. Can’t trust a man like that. I’m not watching GH much now. have ff all his scene. If he had apologized, I would have respected him.

    1. I agree. Some of the cast were medically vulnerable. Shame on him. Can you get imagine if your doctors refused to wear gloves or wash their hands because it was uncomfortable for them? Wearing a mask on set at that time was part of the job.

    2. Get a life…his scenes are one of the few I can tolerate. I desperately wish that I wasn’t forced to get that untested vaccination 3 times. My extremely liberal aunt will tell you the same thing as she has never been in so much pain from her Poly-myalgia. People should be allowed to choose.

    3. No one should be forced to have an unknown substance injected into their body. I respect him for standing up for his beliefs⁰.

    4. You are a total idiot he didn’t have to get vaccinated and I wouldn’t either It’s poison in those shots you dumb a** And guess what for the whole 2 years nobody had the flu everybody had COVID really you’re an idiot.

    5. Apologize for what? He had a right not to get vaccinated and GH had a right to let him go. You blame him for his wife’s pregnancy by another man? He’s news no matter what happens. Finally, it’s your right not to watch the show.

  4. apologized for what? if you read the news you know that nearly every thing they said about the vaccines was false. He did what he thought was correct which is what everyone should have been permitted to do.

    1. The vaccines saved lives and now we know they did not cause deaths like some initially reported. Read the research done by professionals with large global datasets. Don’t trust the morons on your social media feed. My guess is you are not from NYC and had no idea what it was like before immunizations. More people died of Covid in NY in the first 100 days of the pandemic than the total number of Americans who died in the Vietnam War. Learn to care about human life and stop annoying those of us who lost loved ones.

      1. I know exactly what it was like as I’m a nurse who cared for patients in the ICU. I took care of people who were vaccinated & still died so the vaccine wasn’t everything they said it was. I was forced to get it, to keep my job. Regret taking it to this day.

  5. great actor Steve Burton but could care less if he stays seems like he thinks he is entitled. everyone is replaceable.

  6. Steve Burton was a wise man for refusing the vax. He is very physically fit and did not want to drop dead with some heart condition. He was likely at risk from all the shedders. Besides the show sucked while he was gone.

  7. leave him alone, by not getting the shot wouldn’t have given more people the virus. Its all about Immune systems. He has that right to chose to take it or not. We do still have rights . Most people refused to get the shot, it didn’t kill them .Others had gotten it and it killed them. But if your working with others you should wear a mask. because it is YOUR protection. Now was he really selfish??? I THINK NOT. but he lost his job over it.

  8. are you kidding me she exposed herself by showing her pregnant belly which she cheated on him eith snother man he had no choice people were congratulating him on the new baby so he had to tell that’s not my baby she should be ashamed how did you think their kids felt knowing their mother had a bby with another man while still married to steve

  9. I have watched GH for 50 years and am so excited that Jason is back, the show was not the same without him. He is a wonderful actor. And as far as his wife she is the one who cheated and got pregnant, so how could anyone blame him for telling the truth about not being the father. If the writers give him the right story lines the show will be successful again with Jason! Wishing him the best.

  10. I know exactly what it was like as I’m a nurse who cared for patients in the ICU. I took care of people who were vaccinated & still died so the vaccine wasn’t everything they said it was. I was forced to get it, to keep my job. Regret taking it to this day.
