‘Shark Tank’: Where To Buy AU Baby Blankets
There is a new episode of Shark Tank this week and four new business owners are looking for the sharks to help invest in their company. One of the new entrepreneurs on the show this week is the owner of AU Baby, who makes cashmere baby blankets.
Here is what you need to know about AU Baby and where to buy them after seeing them on Shark Tank.
What are AU Baby blankets on Shark Tank?
Alexandra Ulmer launched AU Baby (pronounced Oh Baby) in 2019 before she started her own family. Alexandra grew up in Oklahoma City before moving to London to start her fashion design career when she was 18. She then moved back to the United States and took her skills first to New York City and then to Portland, Oregon. She started out designing apparel and footwear for both luxury and sportswear brands.
After over 10 years of designing clothes behind the scenes for other companies, Alexandra decided to launch her own company. “In 2019, before starting a family of my own, I launched AU Baby, the first organic, purely plant-dyed baby blanket collection,” she said (via Voyage LA). She said her goal was to combine her love for knit design and wellness and chose to go into baby products.
Alexandra continued self-funding her company during the pandemic. However, she said she was already at a disadvantage as a fashion designer because she was raised in Oklahoma City and just took this as another obstacle she could overcome. She overcame all obstacles and her company is now thriving.
AU Baby creates “the world’s first clean, sustainable baby blanket collection.” They use natural fiber, which is a top performer for babies. It is also smell and stain-resistant and wrinkle-free. According to Alexandra, it only needs to be laundered once or twice a year.
