DWTS Livid Tom Bergeron Shares The UGLY Truth Behind Firing
The former DWTS host recalls sitting down for several lunches with the executives of the show to work out the details for the new season. With it being a pretty big election year, Tom Bergeron didn’t think putting any politicians on the cast was a good idea. In fact, he told executives refraining from doing so would allow the show to be an escape from politics entirely.
At the time, the executives agreed with him. Things, however, changed when a showrunner and producer gave him a phone call. They talked about the celebrities and public figures set up to be in the new season. Tom recalls the showrunner encouraging him to “sit down” for the next day. The showrunner referred to the next individual as “the former press guy for Trump.”
Fuming, Tom pointed out that was exactly what he told them not to do because it wasn’t the right time for it, and wouldn’t allow the show to be a break from “the bullsh*t.”
Willing to compromise, Tom Bergeron told the Dancing With The Stars executives he could simply take the season off. He just couldn’t bring himself to host with Sean Spicer on the cast.
Tom shares that the producer and showrunner responded by telling him they could allow him to get out of his contract with the show if he wanted. He was flabbergasted by how strongly they supported the idea of Sean Spicer on the DWTS cast. He wrapped up his story by saying the entire situation “really p*ssed” him off.
No Love For Tyra Banks?
Tyra Banks went on to replace Tom as the new host of Dancing With The Stars. Tom Bergeron, however, didn’t seem to have a lot of love for his replacement. In fact, he referred to her as “a curiosity.”
DWTS fans were largely inclined to agree with Tom as they never cared for Tyra as a replacement host. Fortunately, she has since been replaced by Julianne Hough. Julianne is very familiar with the show as she was previously a professional dancer for it.
