Drew Barrymore Addresses Backlash, Owns Her Decision
Drew Barrymore has been all over the headlines for days — and not for good reasons.
Earning the title “Scab,” most of the Internet is furious with her over her decision to bring her talk show back for new episodes. Even fans of the talk show and the TV personality admit the decision left a bad taste in their mouths. Fans think it was disrespectful to writers and actors on strike. Furthermore, they also think it is hypocritical as this decision comes months after baking out as the host of the MTV Awards to stand in solidarity with those on strike.
Feeling the heat from her controversial decision, Drew Barrymore has taken to social media. She’s addressing the backlash. Most importantly, she’s owning her decision. What exactly did the TV personality have to say in her apology? Keep reading for the details. Or, scroll down to listen to it.
Drew Barrymore Addresses Backlash, Owns Her Decision
Kicking off her tearful apology, the talk show host tells her followers that this isn’t a PR protection move on her part. She doesn’t regret her decision. And, she isn’t going to change her mind. She, however, does want to issue an apology to anyone who was hurt by her decision. Drew Barrymore insisted she stands by her decision even if people don’t understand.
Drew Barrymore's Hamptons house cost $6 million. Her Upper East Side duplex was over $8 million. Her Montecito house sold for over $5 million. Her Kauai house was…sorry, what was she saying about the only way to pay her crew?

Now, Drew Barrymore did address the hypocrite accusations too. She explained that backing down as the host of the MTV Awards was the right decision. There would not have been a way for her to host that award ceremony and be in compliance with the ongoing strikes. With her talk show, however, she can run with the show and be in compliance with the strikes. She explained that she would avoid topics that shouldn’t be touched.

She continued to explain: “We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind. We launched live in a global pandemic. Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real-time.”
Drew Barrymore has released an apology video about resuming production on ‘THE DREW BARRYMORE SHOW’ whilst her writers are fighting for fair pay.

Why Did She Make This Decision?
Drew Barrymore revealed one of the biggest questions people are asking her right now is: Why? Unfortunately, the answer to the question is pretty complex. She, however, did point out that her talk show was a job and a source of income for many people.
There’s a huge question of the why — why am I doing this? Well, I certainly couldn’t have expected this kind of attention, and we aren’t going to break rules and we will be in compliance. I wanted to do this, because this is bigger than me and there are other people’s jobs on the line.
In defense of Drew Barrymore, WGA also issued a statement that the talk show was returning WITHOUT writers. So, it was not in violation of the WGA strike rules.
The real question is simple: Will people tune in to watch new episodes of her talk show? Or, is this decision going to hurt her ratings? Let us know what you think in the comments.
