Good Morning America host Michael Strahan returned to the desk after a sudden absence to share some sad news.

The popular host was suddenly missing in action from the show late last week. Fans speculated and wondered why he and Robin Roberts were both missing from the end of last week at GMA. But on Monday, Michael returned to his seat and slid behind the desk to share some sad news upon his return. Read on to find out what Michael had to say, and what we know about his absence.

Michael And Robin Both Missing From GMA Late Last Week

Last week, Robin Roberts was supposed to return from a long summer vacation. She took time off to spend with her fiance. And traveled to London with co-host Lara Spencer to cover Wimbledon. Robin returned to the desk as scheduled on Thursday, having returned to the States on Wednesday.

However, she returned Thursday and was suddenly absent on Friday. But it wasn’t just Robin. Michael Strahan hosted the show like normal from Monday through Thursday. Then on Friday, he joined Robin in pulling a mysterious disappearing act from the desk. The sudden double disappearance left fans baffled and wondering why two of their favorites were simply not at work.

On Friday, George Stephanopoulos took the desk as always. However, he wasn’t joined by Michael and Robin. Instead, he was joined by Juju Chang and Rebecca Jarvis. If fans hoped for an explanation, they were sorely disappointed.

Then, Monday morning dawned and Michael Strahan was back in his usual spot. Janai Norman shared some news, and then Michael shared some grim news of his own.

His first words upon returning to his spot, however, were not about his own absence. They were about a dark and disturbing news story. Michael explained, “New details emerged about how police finally tracked down a murder suspect, who broke out of a jail in Pennsylvania, and was on the run for more than a week.” He then directed viewers to Alex Presha in Columbus, Ohio, to add details about the story.

Absolutely no mention was made on GMA as to why Michael Strahan was absent on Friday. Or why Robin Roberts returned for a day and then was absent again.

  1. I think it’s time! And NO this has nothing to do with race. I like Lara but not so much George. Let’s get some new faces and run with it!

    1. George may have a querky sense of humor but I think he adds a lot to the show. I would hate to see him go.

    2. I agree with you overall Patricia, but have NEVER cared for Lara Spencer. Don’t like her voice, condescending manner, phony quality she has to her. In addition I feel she’s not a nice person just under the surface.

  2. i hate news channels that think they are keeping you up on the important stuff, when each & every day they have become more and more just an entertainment channel. dislike very much and looking elswhere. thanks so much. abc you are great at this. cbs please keep telling current news and weather—leave the hijinks to all other channels. if i cant find current news then i will do with out!

  3. I’m tired of a newscasters opinion. I would like facts. When did politics of a newscaster decide facts?

  4. I don’t care much for Robin Roberts. after I found out she married a woman, I find this disturbing her being on this news show. everybody thinks she is such a wonderful lady.

    1. Because she has chosen another woman doesn’t mean she is not qualified to do her job. This is 2024 Not 1924!
