Savannah Guthrie & Hoda Kotb All Smiles As Al Roker Returns

Al Roker made his triumphant return to Today and had Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb all smiles. He was back as he took his position by the weather map. Al has been missing from the show since the start of May, so it was nice to see him return. More so, he seemed happy to be with his pals, as well.

Here is why Al missed the past month and what Savannah and Hoda had to say about his return.

Al Roker returns to Today

Al Roker made his return to Today on Tuesday, May 30. He had been gone since the start of May because he had to have knee surgery. Al had his second knee replacement surgery and has been out recovering and rehabbing since the surgery. However, when he made his return on Tuesday, he got a warm welcome from Savannah and Hoda on the show.

Both Savannah and Hoda smiled big on their faces as Al Roker took his position for the weather. “Look who’s here,” Savannah announced as Al returned. Hoda clapped and said, “Come on!” As Al waved back, Savannah said how happy everyone was to see him back on Today. She then mentioned that Al has a “brand-new knee.” Al agreed that he did and Savannah asked how it was. “I’ve got a new wheel. We’re getting there,” Al responded. He moved his knee back and forth, testing it, as he talked.

Savannah then cracked a joke, asking if it has that “new knee smell.” Al raised his hands and said he wouldn’t go there, but he told them that it was all good. After Hoda said they were all happy to have him back, he said it was good to see them and then looked at the camera and said it was “good to see you folks” – referencing the audience at home. Al then went on with his weather report for Today.

Fans rejoice in Al Roker’s triumphant return

The Today Twitter account posted a video of Al’s return and the conversation he had with Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb and fans were overjoyed. One fan posted, “very nice” and another wrote, “So glad your surgery went well Al!” There were also some nice gifs posted including one of a little kid standing g on his chair dancing, with the comment, “Oh yeah, oh yeah…he’s back, he’s back!” Another just posted a gif of a standing ovation.

Al Roker announced earlier in the month that he was having his knee replacement surgery to explain his absence from Today. He also said this was a “replacement of a replacement” as it is reconstructive surgery following his first knee replacement surgery.
