Billie Eilish Makes Acting Debut In Donald Glover Show

Billie Eilish is one of the most famous singers in the world right now. She’s effectively taken over the music industry between 2019 and today. What she’s yet to do is leverage that musical fame into a successful acting career. Something many musicians have done in the past. But that all may change in 2023. Billie Eilish just made her acting debut in a surprise role no one saw coming. And it’s in a show made by Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, another famous musician and actor.
Billie Eilish In Hollywood
The title of the show is Swarm. The entire first season just came to Amazon Prime Video recently after a fairly mysterious rollout. The only promotion consisted of vague and harrowing short teaser trailers. So the hype of the show is made almost purely off of its star power. Being the first show Donald Glover is following up his hit Atlanta with, it certainly has eyes.
Billie Eilish appears in the fourth episode of the seven episode debut season. She’s plays the leader of a woman empowerment group who takes the main character Dre (Dominique Fishback) under her care. She winds up being something of a manipulator who further disturbs the mental health of a girl who is already severely unstable.
But the singer of Bad Guy and No Time To Die isn’t the only surprise celebrity involved with the show, either. Episode 5 has Malia Ann, AKA Malia Obama daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama, credited as a writer. This is Malia’s first writing credit for a TV show.
It’s unknown if Billie has plans to continue pursuing acting further past this initial role. She certainly shows a lot of promise off of this one performance. She strikes the tone of a disturbed cult leader helping the main character spiral down the wrong path perfectly.
Swarm
Swarm has already been receiving a lot of attention on its premiere day. A lot of it comes from the big names like Donald Glover and Billie Eilish. But that’s not to discredit the legitimate praise the show is already receiving for being creepy, strange, and fascinating. The premise of the show is that it “tells the story of Dre, a young woman who is obsessed with a fictional pop star, with a fanbase known as ‘The Swarm’. The show is a dive into Dre’s life, her fandom, and how it takes her to dark, unexpected places”. So the show is a psychological horror about a girl with a celebrity obsession.
It isn’t known at this time whether the show will be returning for a second season.
