Fraser Olender’s learning experience
Captain Sandy Yawn always calls it a learning experience. The Bravo star spoke to Us Weekly about their troubled work relationship. There was one point when she wanted to fire Fraser. He was almost let go during Below Deck Season 10.
“There was a moment [where I considered firing him]. Absolutely. Because listen the walls are thin and [it is important to not] jump on their bandwagon,” Captain Sandy Yawn told Us Weekly. “Change that narrative. That’s your role as the superior here. You’re absolutely responsible for your team.”
She simply wanted Fraser to do his job and be a better leader. Sandy was the one who had to deal with the issues with the interior crew. Eventually, stews Camille Lambe and Alissa Humber got the boot. Sandy recalled times when she told Fraser that he had to fix these matters himself.
“Like, if you need help, ask me. But until then, I stay out of it,” Captain Sandy Yawn continued. “I will only help if I see that client is suffering in service. If I see something going on or there’s disharmony on board in my eyes — that’s when I step in.”
Struggles with Captain Sandy Yawn
For much of Below Deck Season 10, Captain Sandy Yawn and Fraser had their issues. They didn’t get along at first. After she fired Camille and Alissa, things were better with the interior crew. Even Fraser said there was a different vibe on the boat.
Captain Sandy Yawn has gotten backlash for calling Fraser the “cancer” of the boat. Some Below Deck fans called her out for using the offensive term. Sandy admitted that she “should have chosen different words.”
She overcame her own cancer battle. The Below Deck Season 10 star admits that it was a “bad choice of words.” She could notice that he seemed “afraid” of his position. The reality star did share what Fraser could’ve done better with his job.
“When you’re in that position, I always have an open-door bridge policy,” Captain Sandy Yawn shared. “I would’ve helped him and guided him and tried to say, ‘Hey, delegate and let them make mistakes.'”
