Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Sandy Yawn shared some devastating news with fans. The captain said that she is currently mourning the loss of her brother. She took to social media to pay tribute to him. Sandy also reflected on the memories that they once shared together.
She has been part of the Below Deck Med franchise since Season 2. Sandy replaced Season 1’s Captain Mark Howard, who passed away tragically last year. Now, the Below Deck family is suffering another tragic loss. Her brother passed away at age 55. Sandy paid tribute and wished him “Godspeed” in her statement.
Below Deck Med star pays tribute to late brother
On Thursday, January 13, Sandy took to Instagram to share a throwback photo. The first shows her watching her brothers fight in the front yard when they were kids. Swipe right and you’ll see a recent photo of Sandy with her brother. She did not share the name of her brother in her post. The 56-year-old also didn’t provide any more details about his death but rather reflected on their childhood together.
Sandy recalls the times when they were “youngsters” and would run around and play like explorers in a Mark Twain novel.
“He was a gentle soul, so kind and generous,” Captain Sandy Yawn wrote. “I’m so glad we reunited after many years of not seeing each other and I’m grateful that I got to experience his happiness and joy. I love you brother. God speed and RIP.”
Below Deck’s charter guests and crew members took to the comment section of Sandy’s post. Roy Orbison Jr. and Michelle Damon paid their respects. Boatswain Malia White, who is also on Below Deck Mediterranean, wrote, “Sorry to hear this Cap. Thinking of you & your family.”
Sandy’s girlfriend Leah Shafer added, “my heart hurts for you. i love you babe.” So many of her friends and loved ones reached out to her on her post. Some even asked if there’s anything that they could do to help. Sandy has made an impact on social media with her inspirational posts.
Captain Lee empathizes with Captain Sandy Yawn
Even Below Deck star Captain Lee offered his condolences. He lost his son to drug addiction during his tenure on the show. “I have no words that will ease your pain, I’m just sorry you have to go thru this,” Lee wrote. His son, Joshua Lee Rosbach, was only 42 at the time of his death.
Captain Lee has mentioned his son’s battle with addiction on the show before. He still mourns the loss of Joshua to this day. As for Sandy, she doesn’t share much about her personal life on the reality series. She focuses on offering support and guidance to her crew members. She has only opened up about her health and sobriety journey.
