Lifetime is back with another Ripped From The Headlines movie called Black Girl Missing. This stars Stars Garcelle Beauvais, Iyana Halley, Taylor Mosby, Linda Park, and Cleo Fraser.
Kale Futterman (Lark, Ginny & Georgia) wrote the script with Delmar Washington (Outsiders, Chris’s Briss) directing.
In addition, Derrica and Natalie Wilson, founders of the Black and Missing Foundation, serve as consultants on the film.
What Is The Lifetime Movie Black Girl Missing About?
Here is what we know about Black Girl Missing. According to the Lifetime synopsis, Cheryl and her daughter Lauren have a serious blowout. Lauren wants to drop out of college, while Cheryl wants her to keep going.
After a short time apart, Cheryl tries to contact her daughter. First, she thinks that Lauren is just ignoring her. Soon, Cheryl realizes something is wrong. Her daughter is missing!
When Cheryl tries to contact law enforcement and the media, they are not helpful. More so, they have deemed Lauren as a “runaway.” The police don’t give her daughter any attention. Meanwhile, the authorities and the local press are consumed with sharing information on a missing white girl.
Subsequently, Cheryl and her 15-year-old daughter Marley start to methodically work on finding Lauren. They work with a “community of amateur internet sleuths.” Moreover, Cheryl finds the Black and Missing Foundation.
There, she learns that missing person of color does not get the same sort of assistance or media attention as white people. This discrepancy shocks Cheryl!
