‘The Vampire Diaries’ Creators’ New Series Canceled By Peacock
The Vampire Diaries creators’ highly anticipated series Dead Day will no longer air on Peacock. Even after being commissioned for a complete series on January 2022, the show didn’t receive thumbs-up from the streaming platform. Based on a comic book of the same name penned by Ryan Parrott, the show was directed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. So, why was the series canceled by Peacock? Dead Day Might Make It To Another Streaming Platform
Dead Day comic book follows a group of characters as they navigate the annual dead day. On this special day, for one night, the deceased souls return from the ethereal world to the physical one. They come back either to torment the living beings or to celebrate with their loved ones. The news of the cancellation was announced by Variety.

The series is the latest among several titles that are getting axed at various streaming services recently. However, this new series by The Vampire Diaries creators might still end up on any other streaming platform.
Back in December, reports revealed that Peacock is adjusting its development strategy pertaining to the next stage of its evolution. The streamer will now place a strong emphasis on drama and shows that are binge-able comedies. It would also invest more in true-crime limited documentaries and celebrity-driven shows. So, this shift in Peacock’s strategy to get more subscribers might be the reason Dead Day was axed.
The Vampire Diaries Inspired Several Spinoffs
Kevin and Julie first created the hit teen drama, The Vampire Diaries. This smashing hit series ran for eight seasons and has a huge fan base even today. The supernatural teen drama premiered in 2009 and wrapped up in 2017. The show has received several awards and nominations including four People’s Choice Awards and many Teen Choice Awards.

The Vampire Diaries Creators Are Still In Business With Peacock
However, even with Dead Day canceled by Peacock, the series co-creator Kevin has a relationship with Peacock. Earlier in January, Peacock exclusively released Sick, which is a movie Kevin co-wrote with Katelyn Crabb. Kevin has also been credited with writing the script for the 1996 original Scream and its sequel alongside the 1997 movie I Know What You Did Last Summer.

On the other hand, Julie is also in business with Peacock. Although her previous series Vampire Academy was canceled earlier this month, she is working on another drama series, Freeman for the streamer.
