Abby Lee Miller Sells Iconic ‘Dance Moms’ Studio
Abby Lee Miller has sold the dance studio that she made famous on her Lifetime series Dance Moms. The dance instructor and reality TV star made the announcement on her Instagram page and she shared what is next for her with the selling of this studio.
Here is what Abby Lee said about selling the studio and how much she got for the iconic building.
Abby Lee Miller sells Dance Moms studio
Abby Lee Miller sold the Dance Moms studio where she created a legacy in her Lifetime series. However, for Abby Lee, it is not a big loss because she said that the building is not what the legacy is all about. The Abby Lee Dance Company building was located in Pittsburgh, and when the reality TV star talked about selling it, that was one focal point.
“Putting your name on a building does not guarantee a Legacy. Instilling a desire in kids to learn, to improve, to win, to push the boundaries, to dream big, and to succeed beyond their wildest expectations is what I did inside my studio day after day, year after year,” she wrote. She then went on to say that selling the Pittsburgh studio allowed her to escape the taxes of the Allegheny County, Penn Hills School District & Penn Hills Municipality.
Abby Lee started Dance Moms in 2011 on Lifetime. The studio in Pittsburgh became so popular after this that she was able to expand and open one in Los Angeles. She sold this original Pittsburgh building for $300,000 on December 12, according to the New York Post. The building will be used for commercial purposes following the sale. Miller waited until the news broke before she made her comments about the sale.
Abby Lee Miller and Dance Moms
Abby Lee Miller, now 57, debuted on Dance Moms in 2011 and helped train some of today’s top dancers. This included working with stars like JoJo Siwa and Maddie Ziegler. While she still has a good relationship with JoJo, she has not maintained the same with other former dancers, including Maddie.
This started when she was forced off Dance Moms in 2017 after seven seasons. Legal issues arose that sent her to prison for eight months for tax evasion. The studio was almost sold for tax purposes. After getting out of jail, she returned to the show in 2019, which ended up as its final season.
Abby Lee was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a form of cancer that made her unable to walk. That last season of Dance Moms showed her teaching dance while dealing with her health problems. Earlier this year, she announced she is now cancer free.
