Mark Traub was a stage manager and director on the talk show for 35 years before retiring back in 2019. His beautiful laughter on set brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb crumbled emotionally when they spoke of their former colleague during a live broadcast. During today’s episode of the show Savannah, Hoda, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer were sitting on stools when things took a serious, emotional turn. Hoda kicked things off by talking about Mark. Hoda admit she loved his laugh. And, she enjoyed it when his laugh was heard by viewers at home because they often wondered who the laugh was coming from.
“Although we talked about the laughs that Mark Traub provided us with over the years, we actually have some very sad news about our friend,” Hoda said.
He was a member of our Today family, our floor director, and he worked here for nearly four decades. He was the heart and soul really, Savannah, of our show. He passed away yesterday at 64 years old. He had complications following an 18-month battle with Leukemia.”
Savannah became overwhelmed with emotions as they looked at photos confirming how much Mark enjoyed being part of The Today Show family.
Savannah added: “I have to say our hearts are broken. And so many of our crew’s hearts are hurting too because he meant so much to us and was so devoted to all of us.”

She continued as she talked about the bond Mark shared with Al Roker: “I know Al isn’t here. He’s still healing and recovering, but Al and Mark Traub were super, super close, but really became such an important part of our show.”
Hoda Kotb learned on Savannah for support as she became overwhelmed with emotion.
Rest in peace, Mark Traub.

I do remember the laugh that occasionally was heard in the back ground. And either one of the ladies would laugh and tell the audience who was laughing. RIP
