‘DWTS’ Pro Maks Chmerkovskiy Remembers The Late Kirstie Alley
Maks Chmerkovskiy hasn’t played an active role with Dancing With The Stars for quite some time. However, the show did give him the chance to meet and connect with many different people. It’s also where he met actress Kirstie Alley, who he developed a close friendship with.
Sadly, over the years, the friendship seemed to fizzle out. Kirstie’s belief in Scientology and comments about the war in Ukraine really put a strain on her friendship with Maks. But even so, the professional dancer spoke fondly about the actress when he learned of her death.
Even through all the difficult moments in their relationship, Maks Chmerkovskiy penned a touching tribute to the late Kirstie Alley on Instagram.
Maks Chmerkovskiy says goodbye to Kirstie Alley
It doesn’t appear that Maks Chmerkovskiy and Kirstie Alley were really on speaking terms when she passed away. And now, it seems like the pro dancer is really regretting that they didn’t speak more toward the end of her life.
“My dearest Kirstie,” Maks began his post. “We haven’t spoken lately and I’ll tell you everything when I finally see you, but for now I want to say that I love you very much and I wish you the most peaceful rest. You were one of the most unique people I have ever met and easily one of the brightest moments of my personal and professional life. Some of our relationship is heavily documented. Most of it is known to select few. All of it was like a wild rollercoaster.”
“From Maude to DJ Lil Buttercup you were always all in for life,” Maks continued. “As I’m typing this, memories of our time together rush to my head, I remember how absolutely wild you were and I start to tear up. Something you’d absolutely hate. And now I can’t help but smile because I remembered exactly what you wanted me to say at your funeral. Don’t think I can do it here… I thought you’d be around forever. I wish we spoke often. Thank you for everything. I love you Kirstie Alley. RIP”
Many of Maks’ friends and costars added their sentiments in the comments.
“I loved watching you two together. You guys had magic chemistry. No fear. Just two strong people who were even stronger together…” judge Carrie Ann Inaba wrote. “I only knew her from where I sat… and a few quick interactions. I can’t imagine how you are feeling. Sending love and support. This is a beautiful post.”
The Ukrainian dancer is still actively fundraising for Ukraine
The war in Ukraine has been going on for close to a year now, but Maks Chmerkovskiy isn’t giving up on his homeland. He’s still actively raising money to support refugees and will likely continue to do so into the new year too.
Maks and Kirstie didn’t see eye-to-eye about the conflict, but many fans appreciate that he took some time to say some kind words in the wake of her passing.
