‘John Wick’ Prequel ‘The Continental’ To Premiere On Peacock
The John Wick universe is expanding with a spinoff series slated to premiere on Peacock. The prequel titled The Continental was earlier destined for a Starz premiere. However, it was later acquired by Peacock ahead of its release. While the prequel premieres on Peacock in the United States, elsewhere, Amazon Prime will stream the show for international fans except for Israel and the Middle East. The Continental Showcases The Story Of The Assassin Hotel
The soon-to-premiere series focuses on the assassin hotel that was featured in the John Wick movies. As opposed to regular weekly TV series, this spinoff series will have only three episodes but will play out a bigger cinematic event. The story in the prequel is spread over the course of three nights and tells the tale of events that happen before the John Wick movies. The series stars Colin Woodell portraying the character, Winston. In the original movies, this character is played by Ian McShane.

On the other hand, Ayomide Adegum will portray the younger version of Charon, which is Lance Reddick’s character in the original franchise.

Talking About the spinoff, Chris Mansolillo, the director of Prime Video content acquisition stated, “The John Wick films have created one of the most immersive, detailed, and enjoyable universes we’ve seen on screen in the last decade. We are extremely proud to play a part in continuing to build that universe, offering viewers an insight into the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel and its incredible characters.”

As per ComicBook, Kirk Ward and Greg Coolidge will serve as the series writers, executive producers, and showrunners for all three episodes.
When Does The Continental Debut On Amazon Prime & Peacock?
Slated to debut in 2023, no official release date for the series has been announced yet. The series is narrated from the hotel manager’s perspective. The series will follow a young Winston Scoot through the New York underworld in the 70s. As he battles his demons from the past, he also attempts to take control of the iconic hotel. The Continental serves as the meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.

The Continental is a great fit for Peacock in the United States, given how it has the streaming rights to the John Wick franchise. However, Jim Packer, the Lionsgate president of worldwide TV distribution talked about partnering with Amazon Prime for its global premiere. He said, “We’re delighted to partner with Prime Video, which is always a world-class home for our properties. The Continental promises to be one of the major streaming events of 2023, and it will be a perfect fit for Prime Video’s global audience as the ‘John Wick’ franchise continues to grow.”
