‘GMA’: Sam Champion Reflects Fondly On His ‘DWTS’ Run
Good Morning America meteorologist Sam Champion was thrilled to join the cast of Dancing With The Stars Season 31. But sadly, his time in the ballroom has come to an end. He and his partner Cheryl Burke were eliminated at the end of the Disney+ Night episode.
Getting eliminated from DWTS is never fun, but Sam had an amazing time and was thankful for his experience and the wonderful friendships he made. Read on and see what he had to say about his time on the show.
Sam Champion fought to make it as far as he did
After leaving the ballroom, Sam Champion was happy to get back in his regular routine. He happily opened up to Good Morning America about his time in the ballroom and what the entire experience was like. Although it got rough at times, his biggest fan was always around to cheer him on.
Sam Champion is openly gay and his married to Rubem Robierb. Rubem was always Sam’s biggest supporter during his time in the ballroom. But the meteorologist also really appreciated how well Rubem and Cheryl got along.
“I love him more than anything in my entire life. Cheryl got a chance to get to know him, and there is no getting through anything if you don’t have love and support like that,” the GMA weatherman said about his partner. “His love and support is unconditional and it is just — it’s the joy and the blessing of my life to have him anywhere near me.”
As far as the competition goes, Cheryl Burke admitted that DWTS is a lot like training for the Olympics. Sam Champion has been dealing with body pains since his time on the show and it’s pretty clear to see why.
“My pains have pains right now, my toes are completely squeezed together — I don’t think they’ll ever come apart from being in those tiny dancing shoes — and I have sequins in places that there should not be sequins,” the 61-year-old joked.
Cheryl admits she went into full “dance mom” mode
Cheryl Burke and Sam Champion have been friends for several years. That’s one reason their partnership worked well together.
“There was no walking on eggshells — especially coming from me,” the 38-year-old dancer admitted. “I went from friend to dance mom pretty quick.”
Although she could be a little rough with him, Sam couldn’t have asked for a better partner.
“People need to know how amazing this young woman is,” he said in the interview. “I can’t wait to just hang out with her now and not have to balance at the same time.”
Sam and Cheryl might be done with Dancing With The Stars for the year, but there’s still plenty for audience members to look forward to. The remaining 12 couples will compete again this Monday night. Tune into Disney+ starting at 8 PM eastern time and see what happens on the next exciting installment.
