Cheryl Burke and GMA weatherman Sam Champion had an incredibly close call after James Bond Night. The pair found themselves in the bottom two alongside Cheryl Ladd and Louis Van Amstel. The judges unanimously opted to save Cheryl and Sam, but the pair still felt the heat and pressure.

Can they come back and prove themselves next week?

According to Cheryl Burke, she and Sam are hard at work on their next routine. However, she feels lucky that they are still in the competition at this stage. Keep reading to see why.

Cheryl Burke is proud of Sam Champion’s progress thus far

Sam Champion surprised many Good Morning America viewers when he announced that he would join the cast of DWTS Season 31. However, his fans have had a great time watching him perform. He’s not really a frontrunner at this point, but who knows? Major upsets have happened in the past.

“With this season in particular, there’s peace along with the whole elimination process,” the 38-year-old dancer told Us Weekly this week. “Like, normally I’m a nervous, sweaty wreck, but with Sam, if I’m looking at the actual ability of all the celebrities? We are very blessed to still be in this competition, to be quite honest, and Sam knows that.”

The Good Morning America weatherman is 61 years old while many of his competitors are much younger. Older people without dance backgrounds tend not to make it very far on DWTS. But Sam Champion has a loyal fanbase behind him, so who knows what may happen next?

Cheryl went on to say that each season is always more challenging than the last. But Sam always shows up willing to work hard. She’s proud of his progress.

“Let’s not forget, he’s 61 years old,” the dancer continued. “This is a hard journey so far, but it’s been worth it. He’s learned a lot as well.”

The pair prepare to show off their Disney+ Night performance

Disney+ Night will kick off this Monday night at 8 PM eastern time. Sam and Cheryl will perform the Paso Doble to “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman. The Paso Doble is a pretty tough routine to master. Can they get it down in time?

Regardless of the actual performance, Sam and Cheryl always seem to have a great time in the ballroom. They made this Instagram video showing off their rehearsals ahead of James Bond Night.

Being in the bottom two couples is never a good sign, but Sam and Cheryl certainly could bounce back next week. They’ll need votes from fans to stay in the competition for week five.
