Cheryl Burke & Ex May Head To Court Over Important Asset
Cheryl Burke is having the time of her life on Dancing With The Stars right now. However, she’s still hammering out the final details of her divorce from actor Matthew Lawrence. The couple has finalized their split, but they just can’t agree on one important asset.
Now, the dancer says they may even go to court over the issue. Keep reading to see what Cheryl had to say on the matter.
Cheryl Burke is prepared to fight her ex in court
Matthew Lawrence and Cheryl Burke publically announced their split in early 2022. Since then, the whole divorce proceedings have been pretty amicable so far. There hasn’t been a lot of drama over the shared assets — except for one item. Both Matthew and Cheryl want custody over their dog, Ysabel.
TV Shows Ace previously reported that the pair couldn’t agree on custody, but now it seems as if they may be headed to court.
On her podcast Burke In The Game, Cheryl described the situation and gave more details on the potential trial.
“It’s still not over because we have to maybe go to trial — well, we are going to go to trial, unless [Lawrence] all of the sudden calls it off. That will happen in January. I’m still just really hurt by the whole situation,” the 38-year-old said.
Matthew Lawrence gave Ysa to Cheryl Burke as a gift one year. Since then, the dancer and the dog have been inseparable. The dancer has no interest in sharing custody.
“That’s my dog. Ysabella is my daughter; I’m a dog mom, and that’s it. I couldn’t even imagine my life — I mean, I could just cry right now. But I couldn’t imagine my life without her,” she continued in the episode.
Without a doubt, this is a very emotionally challenging time for Cheryl Burke. But even so, she doesn’t seem to let it bother her in the ballroom.
The dancer puts her feelings aside for DWTS
Cheryl Burke and her partner Sam Champion were in the bottom two this week on DWTS. But even so, Cheryl says she feels lucky that she and Sam are still around.
“With this season in particular, there’s peace along with the whole elimination process,” the pro dancer told Us Weekly this week. “Like, normally I’m a nervous, sweaty wreck, but with Sam, if I’m looking at the actual ability of all the celebrities? We are very blessed to still be in this competition, to be quite honest, and Sam knows that.”
