‘Jeopardy!’ Fans’ Outrage Gives Sadie Goldberger 2nd Chance
The Jeopardy! outrage gave Sadie Goldberger a second chance. Her loss was one of the most controversial moments of Season 38. Fans stormed social media to call out that moment. The executives agreed to bring her back one more time.
They broke their silence on the player who lost due to a baffling judgment that had many up in arms. This led to Megan Wachspress’ shocking win and a lucky streak that had fans scratching their heads.
Some of them called for the game show to give the contestant a second chance. Read on to see what happened and when she will play.
Sadie Goldberger was snubbed?
The incident took place during Final Jeopardy! The clue read: “Congratulating her on the 1969 release of her biography, Frederick Douglass wrote, ‘I have wrought in the day — you in the night.'”
Contestant Molly Fleming correctly wrote, “Who is Harriet Tubman?” She won $3,200 to her winnings for a total of $6,500. Megan Wachspress answered correctly as well and added to her astounding total of $17,199. Sadie had the right answer, but she didn’t have time to finish writing.
The Jeopardy! judges concluded that it was incorrect since she didn’t have it written out in full. Host Mayim Bialik informed her, “It looks like you were going to for ‘Harriet Tubman,’ but you did not finish, so, unfortunately, that is not going to be acceptable.”
Sadie looked disappointed with the outcome. Yet, she nodded in agreement. Jeopardy! fans weren’t as accepting. They took to Twitter to express their frustration.
- “Sadie was flat-out robbed out of a win. I read it right away on the reveal as Harriet Tubman.”
- “They’ve counted Final Jeopardy! responses with worse handwriting than that.”
- “I don’t see how they can judge that as incorrect so quickly.”
- “She got robbed.”
She ended up wagering $7,5000, which would’ve given her a grand total of $17,300. She could’ve become the new champ over Megan. However, it was Megan who went on a lucky streak for the new few games. Some fans think she had many opportunities to lose.
Jeopardy! execs give Sadie a second chance
The Jeopardy! execs addressed her controversial win. They admitted that they “cleaned up some rules” since the backlash was “tough to deal with.” Fans noticed the inconsistencies with the rules. However, the fan favorite will be given a second chance to redeem herself.
Sadie will make sure to write her responses in full this time around. Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Davies and his co-host Sarah Bruce said on the new Inside Jeopardy! podcast that each player from Season 38 will return for a special game. They want to make the quiz show “more like sports.”
“Many will remember Sadie, she competed against Megan Wachspress who you’ll see in the Tournament of Champions,” Sarah explained.
She admitted that the show is “not perfect.” They decided to bring her back after the game show received so much backlash. What are your thoughts on Sadie returning for a second chance? Do you think it’s the right call? Sound off below in the comment section.

Just saw the replay of the game with Sadie Goldberger and could not believe that answer was said to be wrong! I had zero issue reading her correct answer. Outrageous.
I watched that show and was upset when her answer wasn’t accepted.. 99.9% of the show is verbal and they decide to axe someone because of penmanship speed .. ridiculous.
I just now watched this show—again. I did not see a problem with the way she wrote her response. I think it should have been accepted. I am glad she is getting a second chance.
