Fans Blast ‘MBBFL’ As Bogus, Does Whitney Way Thore Know?
Whitney Way Thore has helped people of all sizes feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. Watching her navigate life on My Big Fat Fabulous Life has been somewhat of an inspiration. Through ups and downs, it’s been a special experience. However, some fans are starting to believe that elements of the show may not be real. Yet is Whitney in on the inauthenticity of it all?
Whitney Way Thore Puts It All Out On The Line
From the beginning, Whitney Way Thore showed that it was okay to be bigger. She was already a YouTube sensation and then TLC wanted to share her story. My Big Fat Fabulous Life showcased her friends and relationships which were central to her revolving journey. This included her struggle with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) which could affect fertility. Sadly, she has never thrived romantically. Her first boyfriend on MBFFL was Lennie Alehat.
Unfortunately, by Season 3, they split as it seemed he was unfaithful. She then found love with a man named Chase. The two became engaged but never actually lived together. Eventually, the sad truth came out that he had fathered a child with someone else and they, too, parted ways. More so, it seemed like the only love she could truly count on was her friends and family. In the end of Season 9, she was off to be with a Frenchman she had met. No one knew if he was real or just a figment but obviously, there was this sincere hope.
As Season 10 quickly approaches and Lennie returns, there’s a lot to unpack. Whitney’s mother faces serious health problems leaving her world crashing around her. However, some are skeptical if this show is actually all bogus. If so, does the lead actually know the series is not genuine and just playing along? This one is a doozy.
Real Or Fake?
To be fair, most reality shows have an element of being disingenuous. They are staged for emotional purposes and to have an impact. Yet, Whitney Way Thore almost always strives to be her authentic self. Now, fans have taken to Reddit to express some concerns, staring with this: “Does Whitney know how bogus the show is?” That started a whole thread about both Whitney and the series:
- “Whitney is a producer so she is in on everything and makes decisions but I think she lives partly in this alternate reality. Especially if she lives mostly through internet and doesn’t leave the house much. How much she thinks the audience is buying, well she doesn’t care about the quality of attention as long as it keeps coming.”
- “I think she doesn’t really care. She figures that a.) any attention is good attention b.) anyone who says she has a poor quality of life due to her weight is a “hater”.”
- “She doesn’t care as long as she’s making money”
- “I don’t think she does”
The general consensus is that she does know how staged the show is but keeps going along with because she likes the limelight. As long as the series keeps getting renewed, why should she stop what is working?
