The reality TV series follows different crabbing boats throughout the season and highlights the dangers of the job. Despite the intense situations shown on the show, it isn’t often that someone dies during the filming of the program.

Other former crew members featured on the show have died due to other circumstances, such as drug overdose and even a gang-related shooting. There have also been several serious injuries documented by the TV series.

Like everything on television, fans learned about Tod Kochutin’s death long after it happened. News of his passing surfaced this week, more than a year after he died in real life. Here is what is known about the events leading up to his death.

Even though fans of The Deadliest Catch only just learned of the fisherman’s passing, the 30-year-old died on February 26, 2021. His funeral was reported to have taken place about a month later on March 22.

Details outside of that are rather vague. The events leading up to his death have not been revealed. It has only been reported that he died “as a result of injuries sustained while on board F/V Patricia Lee.”

Over the radio, it is only revealed that the person being treated by the medevac is in a lot of pain. Shortly after, it is shared that Todd died.

Right now, that is all that is known about the death of the young man.
