Fans of The Deadliest Catch recently learned about the death of Todd Kockutin. Keep reading to find out about the tragic way he died.

Who Was Todd Kochutin?

The news of Todd Kochutin’s death was first reported by the Anchorage Daily News. He was the son of Robert Olsen and Deanna Kochutin, an Anchorage native. Todd loved fishing, of course, but also enjoyed music and playing video games when he wasn’t on the boat. He is said to have had a great sense of humor and was loved by everyone that knew him.

Todd only appeared in two episodes of The Deadliest Catch. He was a greenhorn on Summer Bay during his time on the show, which has been on the air for 18 seasons.

The reality TV series follows different crabbing boats throughout the season and highlights the dangers of the job. Despite the intense situations shown on the show, it isn’t often that someone dies during the filming of the program.

Other former crew members featured on the show have died due to other circumstances, such as drug overdose and even a gang-related shooting. There have also been several serious injuries documented by the TV series.

Like everything on television, fans learned about Tod Kochutin’s death long after it happened. News of his passing surfaced this week, more than a year after he died in real life. Here is what is known about the events leading up to his death.

The Tragic Way Todd From ‘The Deadliest Catch’ Died

Even though fans of The Deadliest Catch only just learned of the fisherman’s passing, the 30-year-old died on February 26, 2021. His funeral was reported to have taken place about a month later on March 22.

Details outside of that are rather vague. The events leading up to his death have not been revealed. It has only been reported that he died “as a result of injuries sustained while on board F/V Patricia Lee.”

Captain Sig Hansen stated that he believed Kochutin may have been hit with a crab pot, which can weigh as much as 800 pounds. In an episode that has since aired, Captain Hansen learns about the injury that occurred on the FV/Patricia Lee. Over the radio, it is only revealed that the person being treated by the medevac is in a lot of pain. Shortly after, it is shared that Todd died.

Right now, that is all that is known about the death of the young man. Below is a video released by Discovery UK on YouTube of the crew members reacting to the tragic death of The Deadliest Catch star. While there are still a lot of questions about what happened to Todd Kockutin, the loss evoked emotional responses from a lot of the crew.
