Shane Smith and Josh Harris Reunited On ‘Deadliest Catch: Bloodline’
Great news for Deadliest Catch fans as the two sons of the late Captain Phil Harris’ first wife Mary, Josh Harris, and the lesser-known Shane Smith, are reunited on the spinoff series, Deadliest Catch: Bloodline.
This series is where Josh has taken the old fishing charts he found while remodeling the Cornelia Marie and now is retracing his fishing routes with the help of Casey Mcmanus and occasionally Johnathan Hiistrand.
In the preview, Josh is shown to be under stress from quotas. He says: “My dad had a dream. We’re hoping to keep the stream alive.”
Who is Shane Smith?
The pandemic is on the ebb, and the entire world seems to be getting back to normal. And for Josh Harris, that means demand for fish. In his spinoff of Deadliest Catch, we see he has a long-lost brother rarely mentioned. Shane Smith, the firstborn son of Mary Harris, Phil’s first wife, and Josh’s mom.
Very little is known about Shane, who is not even listed as a son of Harris on his official Wikipedia page. According to his published biography: “Harris was single at the time of his death, but had been married and divorced twice. From 1982 to 1991, his first marriage was to Mary Harris, mother of his two sons, Joshua and Jacob. Joshua and Jacob worked on board his fishing vessel, Cornelia Marie, as deckhands. His second marriage began January 22, 1992, and ended in divorce in 2006 to Teresa Harris.”
The series began as an adventure into the unknown for Josh Harris. This season’s series shows how Josh Harris and Casey McManus’s warm water fishing operation in Hawaii needs more workforce.
To get the help they can get, Josh reaches out to his estranged older brother, Shane, for the first time since their father, Captain Phil’s death over a decade ago. Harris died on February 9, 2010, at the age of 53, suffering an intracranial hemorrhage in the hospital.
There was bad blood, but time is a salve, and Josh is pragmatic about his business. Can Josh and Shane put hurt feelings aside and follow in their father’s footsteps to find the fish their company needs to succeed?
Unlike his brother Jake, a prominent cast member on Deadliest Catch before his legal troubles, Shane is a half-brother and an unknown variable who never appeared on the series.
Deadliest Catch: Bloodline this season
Old faces from Deadliest Catch like Johnathan Hillstrand and Wild Bill Wichrowski are popping up in the new preview.
But now, the screws are turning as the growing demand for delicious fish has complicated Harris’ life. There is a 3000-pound fish quota to meet every week. And Josh, Casey, and business partner Jeff Silva are fishing the old routes that Captain Phil charted decades ago.
His dream of running a successful off-season fishing operation in Hawaii was cut short by his early death.
Fishing well is hard work, and few can cut it and do the job with the timeliness that Josh Harris needs. He must have reliable partners to help. The more Josh tries to relive Phil’s dreams, the more he is reminded that his estranged older half-brother, Shane had a much deeper knowledge of Captain Phil’s formative years fishing in the 1980s.

Josh and Shane were close growing up but after the divorce, Phil remarried and the two half-brothers drifted apart. Now this is an opportunity for Shane to join Josh, Casey and Jeff on a fishing adventure that will hopefully rebuild their brotherly bond and provide them with a big payday.
This season will unspool the Harris family dynamic and reveal a shared past for Josh and Shane. They find new clues to Captain Phil’s “lost years in the 1980s” when their dad lived in Louisiana while building the F/V Cornelia Marie.
This will entail the Harris brothers leaving Hawaii and exploring the Gulf Coast for answers.
Along the way, people who knew Phil and helped build the F/V Cornelia Marie started to talk. Soon they discover that Phil himself attempted his own fishing operation in Louisiana.
But will this experiment work with Shane and Josh as they head up the trail decades later to finish what their father started?
