‘Below Deck’ Captain Glenn On The ‘Worst’ Experience Of His Career
Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Captain Glenn Shephard opened up on the “worst” experience of his career. He’s been through his share of accidents and mishaps over the years. He even dealt with an embarrassing boat crash in Season 2. It was the biggest crash in the history of the entire franchise.
Fans want to know why there was a cliffhanger on the latest episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3. At the end of the Monday, March 21 episode, the “To Be Continued” message flashed on the screen. Episode 5 of the series showed the crew members scrambling as the Parsifal III tipped over from the high winds.
Glenn Shephard calls the situation a “nightmare”
A sudden windstorm is responsible for what happened in the previous episode. Captain Glenn Shephard blames deckhand Tom Pearson for not paying attention. The yachtie was too busy kissing second stew, Ashley Marti, to do his job. Suddenly, the winds picked up and tossed the boat around.
Then a message at the end of the episode teased that more drama will come in the next episode. Viewers will have to wait until next week to find out what happens. Glenn teased what was to come. He calls the situation a “nightmare.”
The Below Deck star spoke to E! News about the dangerous incident. In his 21-year career, he’s witnessed plenty of “scary experiences.” However, he calls this latest one “one of the worst.” The winds from the storm could’ve hurt the crew members and charter guests.
“The whole thing was such a nightmare. The person who was supposed to be keeping an eye out [was] a massive disappointment,” Captain Glenn told E! News. “Everybody else pretty much — especially Gary [King] and Colin [Macrae] — did an amazing exemplary job.”
Does this mean the often cool-spirited captain will lose his temper once again? Fans will have to wait and see. Of course, this isn’t the last time that Glenn was upset. On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2, he lost it when the boat crashed into the dock. He feels he could’ve easily prevented the accident from happening.
Worst Below Deck crash ever
Bravo calls it the biggest accident in Below Deck history. On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2, the Parsifal III crashed into the dock not once, but twice. It malfunctioned, causing the vessel to move backward. Glenn was trying his best to move it forward.
However, it backed up and crashed into the concrete blocks. The accident left a number on his boat. Glenn wasn’t sure what caused the accident. He eventually learned what caused the boat to malfunction. Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1 chief engineer Byron Hissey had that answer for him.
“When you’re in high revs, when you’re maneuvering, and you go under a stern, it gets stuck sometimes, and it’s exactly what happened. I didn’t realize it until I spoke to him,” Glenn told Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “He spoke to the manufacturer of the, it’s a controllable pitch propeller, and he said it’s a known issue.”
During the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 reunion, he revealed that it cost either five or six grand to fix it. Only the filler was damaged. Glenn also damaged his ego. He admitted that it was embarrassing to have that happen on camera.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 returns on Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
