‘Unexpected’ Fans Hammer Down On TLC New Season, See Why
The fifth season of Unexpected is set to premiere on TLC Sunday, March 6th. Yet it is already causing controversy amongst its viewers. The hit reality series has been a fan favorite since it premiered in 2017. However, some people are starting to feel that maybe the show is taking it just a tad too far.
Some Unexpected Drama
Unexpected followed on the heels of MTV smash-hit series 16 & Pregnant and its spinoff Teen Mom. Young girls attempt to navigate life once they discover they are expecting their first baby. Some have supportive families and partners while others feel they have nothing. As seasons went by, viewers got to watch the cast members grow while new teens joined on. Sadly, some of the cast has spoken out again the network, such as McKayla Adkins. Still, the show has continued to go on and be a fan favorite.
This season, three familiar faces are featured and two new girls join the fold. Tyra Boisseau returns with baby daddy problems. She has a few young pregnant family members to add who bring in a lot of drama to the series. Lilly Bennett returns with her fiance and they are trying to venture out on their own. Yet he makes it just as hard as her mother does. Jenna Ronan does not want to break up her family but her boyfriend Aden is giving her no choice.
Newbie Emersyn Potter wants her boyfriend to be with her through all of this but her overly strict mom cannot understand why. Finally, Kylen Smith’s boyfriend is developing quite a record and her family is concerned about not being able to see her. They want to be a part of her and the baby’s life but this is proving impossible. With this over-the-top season just around the corner, fans are starting to wonder if it is all too much.
Fan Outrage Over The New Season
The Season 5 preview dropped a few weeks ago and now it is being promoted on the TLC Instagram. There was a lot to unpack for the new year and fans are seemingly not having it. On February 25th, a cast photo went up and followers started to hammer into the show. “Why do we keep promoting teen pregnancy?” one asked. Another added: “Nothing unexpected when you have unprotected sex. Stop glorifying teen motherhood.”
Several followers questioned why the network could not have shows about teen entrepreneurs or promote that type of lifestyle. MTV’s 16 & Pregnant was brought up as the revolutionary for this type of series. The comments continued. “Stop encouraging teen pregnancy and paying them for it! How about a show 18 and going to college, 21 graduated and becoming a success.”
There were some positive comments from die-hard fans and those who posted that teen pregnancy is never going away. That being said, the show must go on and it looks like it will be explosive. More so, will you be watching the new season of Unexpected? Let us know in the comments.

I’ve watched Unexpected and for the life of me I do not understand the naivety of the parents of these girls. I don’t understand how you let your underage daughter (s) move in with the boyfriend and his parents; it just blows my mind.
