Erika Jayne Backtracks, Lisa Rinna Accused Of Cultural Appropriation
Erika Jayne and Lisa Rinna are wrapped up in controversy. The Pretty Mess author backtracked on one of her Instagram posts after her RHOBH co-star was accused of cultural appropriation. Erika shared a photo of herself and Rinna at the Larger Than Life Launch for her Rinna Beauty Line.
Rinna was unrecognizable in the photo. She wore a caramel brown wig that was styled in soft curls. Rinna also had a darker tan than usual. She paired her look with a metallic animal print dress. Erika wore a similar dress but had her signature blonde hair and glam makeup look.
Lisa Rinna compared to Donna Summer
Erika had no idea what trouble she was in for when she compared Lisa Rinna to Donna Summer. The Bravo star took to Instagram to share a photo of the two with the original caption: “Donna and Jerry,” referring to singer Donna Summer and model Jerry Hall, the ex-girlfriend of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
Bravo Snark Side caught wind of Erika’s Instagram post with the original caption. They took a screenshot and shared it via their Instagram Stories. Then, they followed up with a photo of the late Donna Summer. Erika received criticism for her Instagram post. Some fans took offense to Rinna’s look and said it was offensive. Most fans accused Lisa Rinna of cultural appropriation.
- “If that is Donna Summers…..Rinna be hitting up the black face!”
- “It’s giving blackface.”
- “That face makeup is not ok [Lisa Rinna].”
- “is Lisa Rinna black now lol. [SIC]”
- “Rinna you have become the biggest troll I know. So sad.”
Erika followed up with a photo of the entire cast decked out in ’70s clothes. Some fans couldn’t help but notice how much darker Rinna looks compared to Garcelle Beauvais. Others compared Rinna’s look to the Diana Ross-inspired costume that The Real Housewives of New York City star Luann de Lesseps wore during a Halloween party that Dorinda Medley threw in October 2017.
Erika Jayne backtracks amid backlash
Erika kept both of the photos up on her Instagram page. However, she backtracked on her previous Instagram post. Instead of referring to herself and Lisa Rinna as “Donna and Jerry,” she changed the caption to “Cher and Jerry.” Of course, that doesn’t make sense since Cher isn’t known for rocking big hair with an orange tan.
It’s obvious what their original intention was. Lisa Rinna has not spoken out about the cultural appropriation claims. She’s already in danger of losing her diamond. The cast for RHOBH Season 12 is about to get bigger than ever. That can only mean someone is about to lose their place.
What are your thoughts on the Lisa Rinna cultural appropriation claims? Do you think she should apologize? Sound off below in the comment section. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 12 will premiere on Bravo sometime this year.
